Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy (2004)
Good, but not great
An overall decent comedy. Not like the conventional comedies, anchorman mixes "normal" humor with strange parts and here and there full out moronic, but somewhere on the way it misses something.
A pretty good feeling throughout the movie, though, and the laughs aren't too easy to count. You can't really talk about a plot in a movie like this, but I feel it holds up decently.
As far as the characters go, they are the movie saviors. Not to many of them though, and Ferrell(Ron Burgundy) and Carell(Brick Tamland) does theirs just splendid. Not something you see at the theaters, but definitely a movie to spend a few bucks on renting.
Frostbiten (2006)
Seriously, guys?
Considering it really had the makings of a great horror movie, I really got disappointed. Vampires, blood, night for a whole month in a pretty small town. Furthermore there aren't many good Swedish horror movies, so this one was really something I was looking forward to.
How wrong I was.. I mean -why, why, why?! Where did the budget go? Why don't write at least 25 pages of manuscript before start filming and why not hire a director while you're at it? Awful acting, sometimes good special effects but no more than in a half-decent B-movie. A good thought started it all, and the idea isn't all bad, but where did it all go? We need more odd and special, not just strange and intellectual pictures from Sweden, but sure a heck not more movies like this one.
X-Men: The Last Stand (2006)
Sure, a good action movie but..
Marvel-freak as I am, I might not be the best one commenting on this picture since I'm already too involved in the comic book in order to produce an objective image of the film.
Anyway, compared to the first and especially the second movie, this one doesn't get through to you in the same way. The second movie is by far the best one and maybe they should have been satisfied with that. Here it's pretty much the same way as in Matrix 2 & 3, it just continues where the last movie finished without adding the essential "extra" which makes it unforgettable.
Not much more character-building, which i necessary when making a sequel, but pretty good photo and good action makes up for a bit of those losses. Decent action film, but no more.
The Da Vinci Code (2006)
One should have settled with reading the book
Overall it is a pretty good picture, pretty good photo and acting and so on, but it really misses something.
Since finishing the book e few days before I saw the movie I thought it would be a great movie since the entire book is built up pretty much like a movie with it's plot, speed etc. But no..
Big parts of the plot depends on the code-breaking and the mind-puzzles around the brotherhood and DaVinci's artwork, but a lot of it is skipped in the movie -not seldom good for the viewer since the big picture is depending on the small, but smart, details.
Sure, you need to skip a great deal when you convert a book to a film, but here I feel that it goes to far. One needs to get to know the characters better in order to fully understand their roles and meaning, but you don't get any time for that.
And the ending doesn't by far get to you as in the book. Sorry, just a 4.
The Butterfly Effect (2004)
Interesting and very entertaining
One of that years best pictures. The photo, the music, the cast, the plot, the turns and the whole feeling in the movie makes it at very good experience. Personally I liked the first part, the more darker one, better. There you got in the heads of the characters and got a good base for the rest of the film. After this, a very different and (more than usual) unpredicted plot starts off.
Kutcher proves that he can act for real and not only within comedy, which was kind of a surprise(but surely a good one). My only complaint is that, without revealing anything, that the last turn could've been skipped and that there was a few better ways to end the movie.(I saw it on DVD half a year afterwards and then there was a different ending, a bit more predictable and unsatisfying)
Gamle mænd i nye biler (2002)
Absolutely hilarious
Comedy at it's best! The humour in this picture varies from lighter more jackass'isch to dark satirical aspects and sometimes borderline evil. The plot is probably totally impossible to explain for someone that hasn't seen it, with twists far beyond comprehension; the turns are as many as they are crazy. The characters are twisted and shows both the best and the worst sides of humanity(or lack thereof). The only thing one could complain about is the music -you could wish for a bit more, but that's just a minor thing.
There are several, independent, movies with the same characters which I highly recommend(all danish).
Ett hål i mitt hjärta (2004)
Worst ever, period.
This is, without the smallest doubt, the worst movie I've ever seen..
What does Moodysson try to say? "Look how bad a movie can be" or what? I see what it's trying to say; with all the dark sides in the society like doubt, depression, lack of love and care, but there are a thousand better ways to say it. Sure, to make people react, one might sometimes have to be a bit shocking, but this is only disgusting. I've seen more disgusting movies, but this one simple doesn't seem to fill its purpose.
Sadly, the actors will have to live with the roles they've played for the rest of their lives, and Moodysson said on a TV-show just the day before I saw the movie "I wouldn't want my daughter to grow up in a society where this movie exists" I can see why..
For the first time ever, I regret seeing a film. I bumped in to a friend at the theater and she told me to change the ticket and see something else, but I still wanted to see for myself. Gee, was she right..
Memento (2000)
Excellent directing!
One of the absolute top movies ever.
Unique in the way that the director really lets you in on how the main character feels, how he sees the world and how one gets to think exactly like him. No other movie is even close to do this as good as Memento. It's such a simple idea, that you can't help but wondering how no-one hasn't thought of it before. The whole feeling of "Why? What's happening? Who am I?" really gets to you and leaves you with a slight feeling of helplessness and apathy after the last scene. The performance of the actors may not be the best ever, but they're definitely not bad -It's, as said above, more the idea that makes this movie special.
The Big Lebowski (1998)
Twisted slacker-movie
A really good picture! The plot is as easy to follow as it is entertaining. The characters as well as the director are more than good at showing us what they want us to see. Amusing and entertaining characters and a story that'll go to the history books. The music is fantastic and really thought-through. You get introduced to The Dude and his world and soon you realize that you never want to leave. The movie shows us the brighter as well as the darker and more lonely sides of life but, most important of all, also that we must be able to laugh at them sometimes in order to get by.
The only thing I didn't totally like was the photo, but you can't have it all.
Slackers (2002)
Just not good -neither the story nor the acting.
NOT a good story and Definitely NOT good acting. Sure, the whole college-comedy-genre i full of crappy movies, but this one "hits a new low" =) The story is really thin and doesn't come up with anything new(as if anyone expected it to...). And the actors... I've seen a few of them in other movies, movies where their performance didn't s**k, so I know that they can do better. The director must have been asleep while shooting this one, that's the only sensible conclusion I have. And, finally, people doesn't smile that much in this movie -isn't that what comedy is all about? I get a kind of eerie felling, it just not funny.
