Manhunt (2024)
Lincoln is a cartoon character
I wasn't looking at the screen when the Lincoln character first appeared and laughed when I heard him speak. One of the worst "I am an old man" fake voices I've ever heard. He is portrayed as a bumbling optimist. Literally bumbling his words. He was an AMAZING orator. The direction is bad, writing too modern, acting is college level at best. I do not know what has happened to Hollywood but it's bad. This could have/should have been good.
This seems to be the final nail in the coffin of American historical pieces. I think I can blame it on the terrible direction the American accent has taken. There is NOTHING refined or sophisticated in tone or diction in the way Americans speak these days. Combine that with terrible writing using modern euphemisms and the show really becomes something of a cringe fest.
Foundation (2021)
Feels weird. Indescribable. *shug* Something is off. SPOILERS
Never read the books but so many weak things jumped out at me as unbelievable I had to look up my assumptions to see if they were correct. They were. More than I imagined. Gender and race swapping is inescapable and sadly will shorten the life of many movies and shows from this generation. The original Gone with the Wind is a classic because it represents life of the time. There will never be a time when an average women can best an average man physically. But we deal with it. Only time will tell if stories like this will be rewatched.
These are my two big assumptions proved correct:
1. Salvor Hardin the "warden" was not originally a woman. Duh
This part got me good though; the actress sounded way too white. All I could think when I heard her speak was, ok, where did she grow up? The valley in Southern California? Nope! British chick doing an American accent! Omg. You can't make this up!
2. The Gaal character was also messed up. Duh.
My biggest turn off was Lee Pace guy as Day. I had a tough time pinning it down. It's a mix of gay flamboyance and overacting. That's pretty much the affectation he puts on the character. In fact the show as a whole had a very strange vibe. I can't tell if it's show runners, actors, directors or all of the above. But the way the gay military leaders sneak knowing/wanting looks at each other with wry little smiles is so incredibly cringey. Hello fraternization?!? And lastly, for now, the girl who plays the Queen was just miscast. Completely. There is nothing regal about her. There isn't anything regal about this entire show. It just feels off and, frankly, creepy.
It kinda feels like the high school LGBTQ+ club got together to make a sci-fi series.
Hereditary (2018)
Evil. Just evil.
I'm giving it 4 atara only because I felt like I needed a shower after. For days. It was well made for what it was. But the dark, evil feeling that came from the screen is undeniable. My house felt dark for days after watching it.
This might sound crazy, but even the exorcist didn't feel this evil. I know this is going to be extreme, but I feel damaged for letting it into my life.
Again, from the perspective of film making and story telling it's a 7 or so. But it's so infused with darkness I would never recommend anyone see it. That's just me. Well, and my family. We all had to cleanse our minds with light hearted sitcoms immediately after. 😂
From (2022)
LOST meets The Walking Dead
ANYONE gives this more than 5 stars has NEVER seen LOST. Welcome to hell. (This is after only watching 6 episodes...)
Take the worst parts of LOST, mash them up with TWD gore and horror and you get this. Brightest stars in the show are the two main characters played by Harold Perrineau and Eion Bailey. But the writing is childish. They force feed you story and relationships. No one's emotions make any sense. Pacing is ridiculously bad except for Jack Bender directed episodes (which FEEL exactly the same as his LOST episodes). One second a child is almost sliced up by a psycho then he's laughing with his mom or something. The show had promise the first and second episode. Then it just forgot what it was trying to do. It feels like they are trying to cook way too much and sloppily spilling it all over the kitchen floor.
This is a perfect example of a movie that was made into a tv series. As a movie it would have a solid story. Beginning, middle, end. As a series they sprinkle main story here and there but the rest is just garbage.
Read the reviews. It's full of people with LOST PTSD. You know why they called it LOST right? Because so many millions of hours of people's lives were lost to the show with the worst ending season in history. Yes. Worse than GOT season 8.
***EDIT*** THEORY! This IS LOST part 2!
Michael (now Boyd) from LOST went to hell. Right? This is hell.
Fathers & Daughters (2015)
23 minutes in and my head is exploding
This script is so formulaic, so vapid, I died a little inside with each line. She has random bathroom sex with a guy then says in a therapy session, "there's nothing inside (me) it's...just an empty well. It's just...just dry and barren." Then the psych says, "is this why you sleep with all these men? " etc etc etc ad naseum. A high school student could have / would have written this script. I honestly laughed out loud it was so bad.
I have 2 daughters. I was hoping this might be a touching story of paternal love. 23 minutes in and it's not. I honestly don't understand how seasoned actors who have worked with great scripts can read this and say, hey, yeah, that's great writing there! Wow! That's amazing dialogue! I'm all in! Feels like they just do it for the next boat payment or funds for the European cottage they've wanted to buy.
Endeavour (2012)
Great until he became an a**
Enjoyed Endeavor until season 7 when he became a self righteous, cheating, selfish a**. If you don't like the main character, what are you watching for?.........
Ordinary People (1980)
10/10 because I was 17
Anyone, ANYONE, who watches this in their teen years benefits from it. It made such an impact on me and many people I know. The 10s are to compensate for the low scores. This movie deserves a much higher score than 7.7 (Feb 20210
SpongeBob SquarePants (1999)
Let me explain the 3
Seasons 1-3 10 stars! Brilliant, funny, amazing.
Seasons 4-current 2 starts. Dumb, not funny, annoying.
Specifically, Spongebob went from being a cute little sponge to being almost as large as Krabs, and the same size as Squidward? His annoying laugh went from cute to OMG shut up! Over acting! Over acting!
Total shame. This show was amazing.
Gisaengchung (2019)
Gave it a 7 but because of wokeness I dropped it to 6
The wokeness I am referring to is Hollywood. Best picture? Because it's a foreign film written by non white males and no white males are in the movie. This is a nice way to cap off the decade of insane wokeness. That is the only conclusion I can come to as to why this won so many Oscars (which have been a joke ever since Shakespeare in Love beat Saving Private Ryan for best picture).
Psychoville (2009)
If disgusting tasteless humor is your thing
Very little actual humor. Writers must have been drunk making each other laugh about poop jokes and a mother pre chewing food for her adult son. Gross out stupid show.
Devs (2020)
Great concept. Artistic. Worst actress ever.
Just pull up season 1 episode 1 at 34:54. I dare you to tell me 2 random high school girls wouldn't do a better job in that scene. Once you see it your can't unsee it. The main actress is flat out terrible.
The Witcher (2019)
Surprisingly bad
Given the budget and scope I would have thought this to be better written and produced. The special effects are on par with Syfy channel stuff and the writing is just terrible. Modem colloquialisms mixed with middle age speech. And the music. OMG the music. Completely out of character with the mood and ambiance of the show.
The Irishman (2019)
De Niro is played out
De Niro is only getting riles these days because he leads the Trump hating brigade. His character acting has been played out. I don't think he knows how to play different than what we've already seen dozens of times. The movie is too long and the youth cgi is terrible.
Marcella (2016)
Worst writing I've seen from a British show
So incredibly unbelievable it is impossible to know where to start. So, I won't. If you value your time skip this one.
The Haunting of Hill House (2018)
Just really good story telling.
From beginning to end it just tells a good story really well. Very well written acted and directed. Best thing I've seen from Netflix ever.
