The Fanatic (2019)
Not quite what I expected
Format: Prime Video
John Travolta is MOOSE!! Over the top acting and paper thin script. John himself did a good job for the most part and was consistent in playing his part. I just found the story to be rather unengaging. As a character study and the psychology of an obsessed fan with celebrity plot unfolds, we are left asking questions about Moose and the root of his obsessions. I think it is clear that Moose is on the spectrum and hence the reason for the social awkwardness. I wanted to root for this movie and generally have faith in Travolta, most of the time it is rarely him that causes a movie to flop. In this case, it is more just a scenario where he put in his time on the character and delivered but the rest of the movie just doesn't quite glue together the way it should. Maybe some more flashbacks, a little less weirdness, and an attitude of more fun. Eg. At the end of the movie, the camera pans back to a movie set and the director says, "Alright guys that's a wrap...Hunter, I don't think this is going to win any awards though". Kind of the quirky twist is what I was hoping for. No one is actually hurt and it's just an over the top movie within a movie scenario.
Serenity (2019)
McConaughey does well on his own, supporting cast not necessary
Matthew carries the movie. I liked it, needed to think it through a little more before the rushed into production.
Dumbo (2019)
Interesting reimagining
Wish they would have developed characters more. Visually it was beautiful and well edited.
Pet Sematary (2019)
Was good but you can't replace Fred Gwynne
A decent retelling of the original but you have to ask yourself, was a remake necessary. Actors all did well. Fred Gwynne will always be the real Judd and John Lithgow took the character a little too dark and disheveled. Needed some comic relief...
The Intruder (2019)
Dennis Quaid is on his A game.
He plays the part a little too well. That's a compliment. Creepy factor and tension leaves you thinking and edge of your seat. Music at the beginning and end credits didn't fit.
