Nineteen Eighty-Four (1984)
Did not do justice to the book
Really missed the mark with this one. The literature of 1984 is written to the T in descriptive text which could easily be translated to film.
Although I do like John Hurt this film does not do justice. The book really intensifies the constraints of this totalarian world but the movie doesn't. They don't use the word "comrade" to identify one another which I felt was a massive part to the narrative. They haven't captured the essence of the book at all.
Without knowing the story it would be difficult to follow the extent of the character motives. I feared the life of Winston far more than the actor in this movie.
Ricky Stanicky (2024)
Love John Cena but hate that ginger actor.
This film was clearly trying ot add to the flow of Hollywood universal studio comedies.
Although a lot of the jokes were missed enough landed for it to be mildly entertaining.
Honestly it felt like a Bill Burr skit half the time.
John Cena saved this movie as Zac Efron and his lesser known sidekick characters really sucked. The headline I put for this video said it all. Then Ginger Jewish guy is the most unlikeable character I have ever seen. He is very irratating and difficult to watch. The sarcastic undertones do not work and his overall performance lacked. His jokes weren't subtle at all.
1917 (2019)
Brilliant but you must see this in IMAX. Totally worth it
I've always been a fan of war films. They're not my favorite genre and I haven't seen all of them but I've seen all the classics.
Full Metal Jacket, Platoon, Saving Private Ryan etc. World War 1, 2 movies seem to be popular at the moment. It's a subject that hits home to a lot of brits and especially men around my age who are shocked to see how those boys went through hell.
After seeing a short trailer for this film I knew it was a "must see". I'd seen Christopher Nolan's "Dunkirk" which was absolutely brilliant. And I got the same feeling after seeing the trailer for this film.
After playing a round of minigolf with my sisters boyfriend we got a takeaway from Nandos and ate our food in the IMAX. We sat at the front of the cinema and were both blown away by the amazing story/cinematography and acting from this entire film.
Sam Mendes is an excellent director. I loved Jarhead and this was even better. You're so immersed in the action and you feel like you're on a mission with the boys. The music is fantastic and overall just a brilliant movie.
Can not stress enough how much you need to see this in IMAX
The Festival (2018)
Mmmmmm.
Yeah I should've listened to the reviews of this film. It was very very cringeworthy. The tone compared to Inbetweeners is very different
Jumanji: The Next Level (2019)
Suprisingly good. Very fun to watch
Watched the first one at home but then went through the effort to go see the sequel at the theatre.
I was reluctant to see the first when it came out as I had a large attatchment to the original Robin Williams movie. It was appart of my childhood and I was upset that they felt the need to remake it and turn it into a franchise. Which actually is the one thing I'm upset about....
This movie is without a doubt really fun to watch. A couple of critiques I have is that the acting wasn't great. HOWEVER. The actors who are playing the game avatars who are imitating their teenage/elder counterparts do an amazing job of playing those characters. But the dialog can be cheesey at times but it's targeted towards kids I guess.
The film ends and we get an after credits scene which opens it up for an unecessary sequel. I really wish they wouldn't do this and suck everyone into this bombardment of sellout franchises like Disney and Warner. But hey, if the third movie is good then why not
Bumblebee (2018)
Wah hoo! Take The Iron Giant/Lilo and Stitch/Herbie/Stranger Things and make it into a Transformers movie and you got yourself a hit!
Absolutely loved this movie! What a breath of fresh air from the Michael Bay trash they were feeding us.
Travis Knight is a great director. He worked in the animation department for Kubo and two strings and Paranorman. The visuals are perfectly done and the story is superb.
The character designs are more than perfect. They pay a huge dedication to the original cartoon series and reinforce what we all know and love about transformers. This includes all the easter eggs they threw in when they showed clips of Cybertron. The cast is great and is a huge improvement to the goofy stuff we've seen before. Hell even John Cena was really fun to watch!
Please please please! Make more transformers movies like this! they are so much better :D
A Series of Unfortunate Events (2004)
Don't understand why people don't like this film
Hilarious well done film. I never read the books so I can't compare but it is still a great film regardless.
Any negative reviews for this film are from people who have absolutely no sense of good humour and cinematic authenticity. They're probably just upset because they're alone and ugly.
