1923 (2022)
Taylor knows nothing about Africa.
The African sequences were brutal and unnecessarily cruel. Wildlife doesn't act this way and creating a dramatic stent line to make the character be the great white hunter is unforgivable. I don't understand the reasons for this in a show that is filled with dramas.
Stick to Montana. You seem to almost understand ranching.

Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One (2023)
Sad and trite.
Tom is getting old. He tries but he looks strained even in the huge set pieces. The impossible stints and situations seem pathetic and silly. The dialogue is hokier then. Saturday morning cartoon. The briefing at CIA headquarters was dialogue out of a bad Edward Albee play. It's hard to believe the writers were allowed to write this and editor didn't cut it all out.
I know this is a new Mission Impossible. The first couple films were silly fun but not offensively trite and stylish over all substance. This is all with a good shooortong cast that does their best to make Tom look good. After his decent reprisal in Too Gun:Maverick I expected better and certainly can't imagine a part two.
Lift (2024)
Kevin Hart think that any short guy can be Jason Statham
As other reviewers have said this is a very typical stylish heist movie. Big set piece locales. Lavish lifestyles of the rich and famous. It almost makes me sad to see Kevin Hart try so hard to be something he is not - an action hero. A little tough guy. Jason Statham. I like Kevin Hart. I thought his movie where he plays himself involved in an adventure was cute but trying to be something he is not is out of his depth as a comedic actor. I guess it's wish fulfillment. The gorgeous girl. The crack team. He as the Danny Ocean mastermind and thief. Besides being completely predictable and without the slightest dramatic tension it just feels like he trying way too hard. Makes me a little sad really. At least he didn't try and remake Shakespeare.
Yellowstone (2018)
Not a show for animal lovers
It's a very engaging show. Excellent cast and engaging if somewhat melodramatic story themes.
Mary Reilly is sexy and smart as the sister. Keven Costner is well himself. Cole Hauser was almost unrecognizable at first which is a tribute to an actor.
Montana is an interesting back drop for a series. The use and then of rancher versus city is trite and predictable and a bit offensive. Noting noble about a. Billionaire rancher who own a property the size of Rhode Island.
For the animal lovers there are multiple scenes of animals killed and killed brutally. The opening scene almost stopped me from watching. I silenced and fast forward but did not expect a worse scene in episode 2. I might try and update this review with additional
Moments to Skip or avert your eyes.
Leave the World Behind (2023)
Like M Night but not
It kept my interest. The dialogue was heavy handed as was the soundtrack. The music cues and cinematography are the sort of chest of horror movies. Everything is cued and slanted but in this case there is zero payoff.
There is zero payoff to the entire film. We are left to imagine something happened. We never know what but it's implied that it was an organized attack. I don't think this makes it any more interesting. Hopefully this is not setting up for a sequel.
The cast is decent but despite the quality of the actors it didn't feel like they were really engaged with the piece. I don't know if they were kept in the dark with the script but since nothing really happens I can't imagine that. It's as if they didnt like their dialogue and didn't best they can. Of course this was writer director film from a novel. No telling what sort of input they received.
Reacher (2022)
Good show. I wonder where he works out being homeless.
I like Alan Richman and like the show but come on. That build. And he lives homeless. Eats at dinners. I want to know his secret. I live in a house and eat pretty well. Maybe I'm doing it wrong. Lol.
I like the second season. The ensemble cast from his past made an interesting story. Wish they had released the whole season but the first three seasons kept my interest.

The Fall of the House of Usher (2023)
What the hell did I just watch?
I love Poe. I have watched something with a title that Poe used. It is more topical porn than sensible. I don't know how they attracted the excellent cast. I presume the reputation of the director. Poes story had nothing to do with.the Sacklers or Succession or softcore porn amongst the rich and entitled. The story is comprehensible but why despoil a great work of American fiction. The strong reviews are as usual sycophantic for the director. They make no sense and all start with the same criticism which is highly suspicious of their authenticity. Please Netflix. Every story doesn't have to be drawn out episodically. This materials original story could be told in a movie. This trash perhaps needs hours of development to draw you into its miserable plot. I will finish episode one out of courtesy then NEVERMORE. Sorry couldn't resist.
The Continental (2023)
If wishes could be real
I wanted to love this show. I wanted to see an interesting intelligent origin story of where Winston came from.
Sorry to be disappointed. The stories are weak and shallow. There is style but no substance which frankly is the feel of the last two Wick films.
First the 70s were not this dark and bleak and post apocalyptic. Second Winston is English not American. I don't understand the illusions of Millennial writers and directors. They play some songs from the period. They light scenes darkly. This is supposed to be atmosphere but betrays the spirit of the time and distorts. No real character development.
I can hope this show gets better.
The Wheel of Time (2021)
Why is season 2 shot so dark?
Love this series but whoever shot and directed the second season made it so dark in many scenes that it is virtually unwatchable. Had to watch in a dark room and even there it is hard to see. Reminds me of one of the final battle scenes in Game of Thrones.

Zack Snyder's Justice League (2021)
The Gray version is everything DC could have been.
Saw the theatrical cut by Joss Whedon and was disappointed like most people. Then the Snyder cut when released. Decent. Still not impressed.
Now the Justice is Gray version and now I see what could have been. It's a shame really. If The Flash is an example of James Gunns future plans for this universe it's going to be a bumpy ride.
The Gray is one long complex film and it deserves to be seen. I hope you catch it. I just watched it on Max and truly surprised to enjoy something that I thought I had seen twice already.
Now filling space to make the required characters for posting which seems really silly.
Peaky Blinders (2013)
Not sure there has ever been as well crafted series
The acting. The photography. The direction. The editing. The soundtrack. I am currently rewatching the series and on a second look I am truly astounded at the quality of this show.
This time I noticed the quality of the set pieces. The atmospheric photography mixed with the frenetic camera work when required. The subtle way they capture the excellent actors faces and actions.
This is an extraordinary piece of work. I am not sure how much credit the series was given. I believe it only won one BAFTA.
If you have watched the series do yourself a favor. Make the time. Savor each episode. You will not refer the time spent.
Shang hai bao lei (2019)
Is it just me or is Netflix pushing a lot of Chinese propaganda movies?
They masquerade as a sci fi but they really all are propaganda movies for the CCP. The message is always the same. China is the center of the world. The Chinese are brave and fearless and so their duty until the end. When they show children they are orderly and repeat the lessons taught by rote.
The effects are decent in all of them including this one but in every single one every other nation is subordinate to the Chinese.
I recognize the actress from The Transporter still lovely 21 years later. The plot is thin but Shanghai is always looking good.
Message is clear. These are not just entertainment.
Poker Face (2023)
It's Columboncornfhe 21st century
Natasha Lyonne is always excellent. The actors are great. The stories are short interesting and well written. I am amazed that what is basically an old fashioned style tv series can be this good. Everything ties together each episode with a thread that moves us to the next. Natasha's character is quirky, optimistic, lucky, and a little magical and she portrays is perfectly. This is a show worth watching.

Nanny (2022)
No idea what I just watched.
Sometimes films written and directed by the same person lose themselves. This is all I can figure after watching Nanny. The cast is excellent. You can't take your eyes of Anna Diop. However the plot thickens them muddles amd then disappears entirely. The supernatural elements all are toy are allegorical or psychotic or misplaced. No idea. I wanted to like this movie because of the cast but truly this is like an M Night film run backwards and stopped halfway. Maybe we can blame the editor.
About half way through I thought I saw a plot besides the African nanny and the yuppie parents. Then j thought I saw a possible mermaid theme or something. Then I thought it was a guilt trip for a lost child. Then I was just grateful it was over and the oermformances were good despite the plot.
Wednesday (2022)
A star is born
Jenna Ortega is a star. Depthful acting for a challengingly one dimensional role. The supporting cast is excellent. I was truly surprised to be charmed by the whole thing. Jenna also manages to be quite alluring as Wednesday.
I don't know if this is a second season show or where it will go if it does but it is a truly satisfying series in one season. We have done the family so I suppose it being Netflix a second season is inevitable.
I had seen and not really noticed Jenna in the Scream reboot/omage. She was good and cute and strong but I didn't really see her until Wednesday. I think Charles Addams would approve.
House of the Dragon (2022)
Three episodes in and who cares?
The show runners explaining why each scene has meaning and portent is the most interesting part of the series. I can see this will disappointing. It is The Hobbit to the Lord of the Rings series. Sort of the same world. Sort of a connection to characters to come but derivative and shallow.
And the white blonde black family might be a good waving of virtue but genetically unlikely. So much of the show seems to be muted as if the woke took Game of Thrones and decided except for horrific violence we will not do what that other naughty show did.
Like I said if not for the show runners commentary afterwards I would not see or understand most of the show points. That's bad storytelling.
Echoes (2022)
Why?
Confusing is had enough but who cares about these characters and why they are doing what they do. And that character of the Sheriff. She like a combo of Colombo amd the most irritating person at a party. I can't understand how such talented people could make such a silly melodramatic mess.
Home (2020)
Second season is not about architecture but virtue waving
The first season was intriguingly designed homes all o we the world. The second season is largely virtue waving and social justice issues. Mostly fast forwarded through most of the current episodes and probably will skip it if there is a third season as value driven.
Hwayugi (2017)
Sweet and silly.
It is a sweet and silly series. I imagine Korean cultural knowledge would make it more sensible. My one question is why are their studios always so cold? So many scenes have ice breath in them. I wonder why they make their actors suffer so much.
The Tourist (2022)
Entertaining. Odd. A pleasure to watch.
I have never noticed Danielle Macdonald but she is a breakout star. Her performance was touching and sexy and heartwarming. It was nice to see Jamie Dornan in something that makes you forget the dreadful 50 Shades trilogy.
No spoilers but a lot of surprises even with the too worn trope of a man with amnesia.
Hawkeye (2021)
The most enjoyable of the MCU
Witty. Adventurous. Daring. Funny. Better than Guardians I. This has everything a Marvel series should have.
I hope there is another season but this may replace Die Hard as my Christmas perennial.
Pretty Little Liars (2010)
Shallow ridiculous high heel high school.
So many murders. So much sex. So many unpassword protected cellphones. So many B&Es. The drama is so silly and the crimes are constant. These attractive young women believe in snooping and no boundaries as they senselessly romp from meaningless drama to drama. No one really cares who did what because these four girls are codependent and addicted to drama.
Is the show worth watching? Yes and no. Sort of like watching a train wreck. I keep hoping for a plane crash amd I am only on season 3.
No Time to Die (2021)
Plot is stolen.
A bit disappointed on the disjointed plot that mixes up every Bond film and adds a bit of Dr Shatterhand. Worse this entire plot is a ripoff of Season 2 of Roswell! Unbelievable plagiarism. It is a weak and unfitting end to Daniel Craig's Bond and makes the untruth that this was all a planned arc even more apparent.
Supergirl (2015)
From good to almost unwatchable.
It was never great but the first couple seasons were entertaining.
Now the writing is simply terrible, the plots incomprehensible, the villains are worse than comic book. Plus the story lines have gone from decent social messaging to simplistic woke drivel.
It's a shame. Much if the cast is likable and talented but this show lost its way and now just plods through one irretrievable plot flaw to another.
Fortunately we now jane Lois and Clark to watch.
