Let Me In (2010)
Remake for Americans only
What was a hauntingly beautiful film, has been remade as a trashy, junk-food movie for American audiences.
It seems that 'Let Me In' (even the title was dumbed down for Hollywoodland), was made with neither heart nor soul, but with a calculator and an accountant. Everything feels forced and poorly imitated. There is no place in Americadisneyland that can even come close to the darkness of Northern Scandinavia.
Those who see this watered-down lite version of 'Let the Right One In' are actually lucky - for they will still have the joy of discovering the original.
A poor imitation of a masterpiece - kind of like a black and white photocopy of the Mona Lisa.
Shame I can't give it zero stars.
Village of the Damned (1995)
Typically bland remake...
The original 'Village' from 1960 is a wonderful, eerie slice of British sci-fi. This utter nonsense starring superman does not deserve the credit of being seen. Go and rent the original, remove any preconceptions you may have about old movies, put yourself in the mindset of a cinema goer from 1960 and revel in the quiet charm and ultimately chilling experience that this film delivers. Or you could read the book by John Wyndham 'The Midwich Cuckoos', in fact do anything other than watch this contender for 'Worst Remake Ever'. At least IMDb voters seem to agree - 7.5 for the Brits, 5.3 for the Yanks - this time go with public opinion!
The Water Babies (1978)
Classic
Wonderful songs, sprightly animation and authentic live action make this a classic adaptation of a classic tale. A nice British feel which sets it apart and above from the standard, saccharine sweet Disney cartoons.
