The Curse (2023)
Refreshing to see Emma play unlikeable
I went through the 7/8 star reviews, and they all seem to amount to IYKYK as an excuse for spending 10 hours of your life watching this all the way through. Don't believe that hype, it's not that you aren't erudite, it's not that you can't handle cringe-worthy, it's just shocking anyone greenlit this. It's not good. Period. It's not genre bending and kind of a disgrace to compare this style to David lynch or Tarantino.
There's so much that could be compelling and cringe worthy in an authentic way that makes you feel like it's ok to be a messed up human being like everyone else. My 5 stars are for Emma playing against type, bringing attention to the location, and bringing attention to some of the real struggles that go on there.
Footballers' Wives (2002)
Amazing, fun, camp
It's brilliant for what it is. Soap opera, have vs have nots, owners vs. talent, husbands vs. wives, up and comers vs. establishment, it's got it all!
Élite (2018)
Binge worthy
It's so easy to trivialize and stereotype both sides of the haves-have not equation and this show, thankfully, won't stoop to that level.
Gorgeous production plus realistic script, storylines, and characters. No one gets out of this life easy, and Elite shows us this in a respectful and engaging way that we all experience as human beings.
