Sing 2 (2021)
Uneducating, bad for kids
The main characters sneak into other people's company illegally, just because they are impatient. Stealing uniforms, access card, etc. All they need to do is make appointment and wait for their schedule. Just like all other performers who got dismissed when they arrive on backstage.
The main character lied. He claimed that an old retired musician is going to appear in the show with them, even though they haven't contacted him yet. In fact, they went through a lot of difficulty to get him to come, later.
They used other people's theater illegally, without the owner's permission. They resorted to violence to take over the theater. They beat up the legal security officers, they shoved the legal owner underground.
There is no attempt from the 'daughter' to explain the misunderstanding to her father, even though it's all started from her mistake and ego. There is no repercussion to this daughter or the main characters.
The behavior of the company owner is ridiculous, illogical, forced and too 'moustache twirling', because the film maker want to make justification somehow to the main characters' bad behaviour. He could have kicked them out of his place, his theater; instead of attempting murder out of nowhere.
In the end, it's happy ending to the main characters; despite all their bad doings.
Did the other reviewers watch the same movie as me?
Mulan (2020)
Everything about it screams 'mediocre'
I am pretty sure that everyone who were involved in the making of this movie worked hard and did their best. But alas, their best isn't enough. Everything about it screams mediocre.
I know it is a standalone movie and it has no obligation to follow the cartoon, but one can't help to compare Mulan to Mulan. The cartoon may have a lot of plotholes (such as, why is it the empire of China had practically no troops and had to depend of fresh ones, also it only has one general/one warlord? and one platoon?). But the cartoon has to be praised too for it's funny moments and quirky characters.
This live action one has nothing stand out. The witch is just, another witch, just like those in The Mummy or Indiana Jones. The phoenix did nothing worthwhile too. What's the point of inserting her in the movie? The main character is, well, a cardboard character. She has no interest in man. She's the strongest one in her team somehow and she doesn't need help. She beat the big bad by herself. (Compared to the cartoon version where she did it by teamwork). She can't really tell jokes. She did nothing but kick ass and be cool. She's a character that even middle schoolers can come up with. No originality and stand out quirk at all.
What a shame. My final score : 6/10. Which fits the mediocrity of this movie.
Gisaengchung (2019)
Are we even watching the same movie?
I don't understand the high praise and award at all. Even if you are poor, you shouldn't throw away your morality! Didn't the son score a job at pizza place at the very beginning of the movie? Isn't her sister good at photoshop and computer? Can't their chubby mom work as dishwasher or clothes washer? A lot of low income family in Indonesia do that. Instead of working hard, they conned their way into an innocent family!
Sure, a movie protagonist shouldn't a good person all the time. But they should get retribution when they choose to be bad. In this movie, the father was never arrested for killing Mr. Park. The protagonist lost his sister, but they got what they deserve. They made the previous house maid lost her job. They killed her and almost kill her husband too.
Mr. Park and his family is totally innocent. But they didn't get the justice in the end. What kind of movie is this? Rich people deserve to die from not treating the poor as equal human being? Nah. Mr. Park is normal. I have seen much much worse.
Some people also mention how about protagonist father deserve to be mad during the final conflict. Hello, guys? What kind of father wouldn't prioritize his son who's having seizure? What kind of father would put a stranger's life before his son's life?
Bad, bad movie, where moderately decent guy didn't get justice, and the murderous evil guy lives.
Maleficent: Mistress of Evil (2019)
They shouldn't mix war and genocide into children's movie
The visual is amazing, without a doubt. I love the message of love and peace across race too. But as I said on the headline, they really shouldn't put war and genocide into a movie which they want to keep child-watchable. The end result is a silly story which makes your eyes roll to the back of your head.
For starter, they show us a whole lot of birdmen, who were driven into the danger of extinction and live in seclusion of by humans? How can these birdmen forgive the humans so readily??
Second, it's a war, but the birdmen don't bring any weapons with them and we don't see any humans getting mauled or bleed to death. We don't see any birdmen die horribly too, even though the humans have firearms, instead these lot of birdmen disappear in a firework. None of them are mourned too until the end of the movie. You call this a war scene?
Third, the fairies are in danger of being wiped out in a genocide. In fact, a lot of their precious life long friends died. But an hour later, they stand side by side with the humans, clap hands and cheer.
I see that you really want this movie to be an all age movie. if so then you should have chosen some other kind of conflict. They really should fire the writer.
The Lion King (2019)
A movie that tells you to stop thinking
Lion King works as cartoon, because a cartoon doesn't need to make sense. Cartoon characters do all kind of absurd things and survive getting squashed and don't need to eat. But this is a movie where the animals look like real ones, so I can't help but facepalm and question things. There are too many questionable things in this movie.
How can Simba grow up into a fine lion from eating worms and insects only? Please ask a zoologist..
How did the Pride Land turn into a wasteland when the only wrong thing that Scar and hyenas did is overhunt? If anything, the plants should be even more plentiful because there's no herbivores to eat them.
Why would the herbivores cheer for Mufasa and Simba as king? They are your predator, dudes! If anything, you should go into hiding.
The Hunger Games (2012)
Should Have Listened to the Negative Reviews
Facing enemies who have trained for the hunger games their whole live, that's what the tag line said. However, other participants other than our protagonist are clearly noobs. They ran franctically and grab stuffs like little children. Nothing like a pro. The way they tried to attack our protagonist seemed like a high school bullies rather than trained killers.
What would a pro do? Mark a guy with the biggest rucksack, tail him and kill him at a quiet place. How would a pro kill? Sneak on the guy while he's asleep and end his life silently.
Oh yeah. Everybody other than the protagonist are unmemorable red shirts. You kind of know the result already far before the movie ends.
Maze Runner: The Death Cure (2018)
Terrible movie full of everything that makes other movies bad
It feels like somebody took the worst parts in every movies he has seen and joined them into this movie. Everything are so ridiculous beyond belief.
Let me give you a few example :
1. A high tech futuristic airplane can't shoot down a shabby buggy.
2. Two young men, totally untrained in gun combat, somehow can defeat dozens of military soldiers in close quarter combat. Their shots always hit. The soldiers always miss.
3. These young men jumped from a very high place, a top of a building, while wearing a lot of clothes and equipments, into a swimming pool and come out unscatched. Just how deep is that swimming pool? Try it yourself, moviemaker. You will be surely slammed into the concrete at the base of the swimming pool and died horribly.
4. A totally crazy and unorganized rioters can somehow create explosions every where, win againsts armed troops, took down concrete and metal skyscrapers and turn the whole city into sea of flame.
5. The villain soldiers always scream put your hands up and didn't shot. Even when our main characters disobey and do stuffs, the soldiers fidgeted like little girls and keep screaming, don't move please, put your hands up. Even if they want the main characters alive, they can always shoot the legs or shoot using sedative syringe.
6. A bus full of people can be lifted with a crane. The crane is only connected to one metal bar on the bus.
7. And many more stupidities.
The Second Coming of Christ (2018)
IT IS a comedy
This is a movie you can't make fun of. It's just awful in every sense. I want to bang my face to the desk after watching it. The sets are glaring fake. The actings are awful. The plot makes no sense.
Chui lung (2017)
Questionable Score
I am baffled to see the overall score. I can't help but question, is that score authentic?
I watched this with my wife. This movie is easily the worst HK movie I have ever seen. There are many bad HK movies, but this movie beats them all. The ones at fault are obviously the director and writer.
First off, the pacing is bad, really bad. There isn't proper introduction and characterization at all. We can hardly know anyone in the movie. They come and go as fast as the wind. When some names are mentioned in the movie, we can only roll our eyes and ask "Who are they again??" When some people die, followed by awful scream and cry and melancholy music, again we look at each other, roll our eyes and ask "Who are those people anyway?" It's true. Until the end, we don't really know they are, what are their relationship to the main character.
After that there's nothing but going downhill. The movie keeps time skipping and nothing seems to be important. People die here and there, but excuse me, who are they anyway, and why should we care? They have only been introduced like, two minutes ago! And then end credit rolls...
Downsizing (2017)
Comedy, They Said
How is this a comedy? I didn't laugh or smile even once while watching this. It was never a comedy. Instead, it's a weird sci-fi movie which doesn't make any sense. What is the director want to accomplish? What did he want to tell the viewer? The plot of is all over the place and awful. The protagonist is also expressionless most of the time. Oh yeah, people are jerk and poor people are there, no matter if we are big or small. That's obvious. We don't need a movie to tell us that. Don't waste money on this movie.
Transformers: The Last Knight (2017)
Totally not worth your money
I wonder how could the film makers sat down, watched this movie, smiled, and patted others' backs, saying, "We have done a good job."
Give me a break, men!
The plot is a tangled mess. The reason for these alien robots coming to earth is inconsistent between each Transformers movies.
The chemistry between the characters is laughable and too forced. The way way they tried to match the professor, a super smart and loaded main girl with our dirt poor and jobless protagonist made me facepalm. Oh, he's a fugitive too, mind you. It's just too unbelievable. No sane girl would fall for this guy the way she is.
It has never made any sense too why the humans treated the autobots awfully, even though they should have known already that they definitely need their help to protect earth. Unless the majority of humans in this movie are simply too foolish.
Animation wise, it was very disappointing too. Early movies allow us to see cool transformation of humanoid robots to expensive cars / tanks / jet fighters / etc; but this movie don't have these. The transformations are hardly shown in detail. It's just Bang, Bang, Boom, Boom, Kyaaa; lots of noise and explosions with no value. Nobody died too in the midst of all that mess. Can you believe it?
Don't waste your money on this movie.
