Fine mrtve djevojke (2002)
Life is not in supermarkets.
Iva and Maria, a young lesbian pair, rent a favorable, nice dwelling in a less good area of Zagreb, Croatia. But unfortunately, included in the rent are the neighbors, the neighbors from hell. The curious landlady, foreigners flogging nationalists, an old man, who live with his dead wife and a man, who beat his wife regularly, are just one part of this neighbourhood. When one of the neighbors falls in love with Iva, the situation escalates - with the result of three dead people at the end. This is a story about the fight for tolerance and the own life, full of psychological shock effects and colorful pictures about suburban living in the capital of Croatia.
Suffocated life. Intolerance. Free-living. Love and love deviations. Masses of suffocated people walking through streets, shopping in big supermarkets.
Fine mrtve djevojke was the Golden Arena winner(best movie, best directing, best production...) in 2002 at the Croatian Pula Film Festival and the best Croatian movie of the same year.

A sentimental meeting of old friends develops into a night of strange events - funny, sad, often absurd...
It seems that the period of 15 years out of school benches is enough to recapitulate life, to see where one is. So, school friends Bane Bumblebee, his wife Biljka, Goca, Uske and Boca Combe decide to celebrate the arrival from abroad of their friend Miki Rubirosis. A wild night was planned to be in a restaurant rented only for them, to remember their youth from the sixties.
There is an invisible thread that connects Srdjan Karanovics films, a subterranean axis that appears to run through his photography. These are characters that are trapped by their own ambitions, or are slaves to their passions; characters who wish to be free of a reality that they cannot control; characters who seek to define their identity: the characters in the films of Srdjan Karanovic are caged in. And perhaps this, according to Karanovic, is precisely the duty of the filmmaker: apart from filming, he must free the characters from their fetters; show them an escape route; help them discover their true identity...
