Could be much better
3 August 2020
I watch this movie with optimistic, it got a very exciting premise and quite good reviews, but the direction, writing, and acting is just not able to fulfill my expectation. The character development is quite shallow. I don't have any emotion tied to Jaya, Laras, and character like Dewa should be explored more, you can go on with the story without Dewa because He got a very thin layer. Through things that Jaya've been through should thrill your soul, but I don't feel anything.

I also feel like some shots are taken once and got into the film because of some limitations. The Indonesian language that they use, I can't relate at all, it's like the actors are reading them without truly understand what they're saying. I don't feel any raised tense, It's flat from the beginning to end, I worry about nothing ever happened to the characters. The shots are nothing special, They could've explore the city of Prague more because they have a very beautiful architecture, make us relate more about what kind of city Jaya been living for most of his life.

In conclusion, I definitely will never watch this again, it's a boring one, but among Indonesian films, I think it's quite good. Especially the scene when Jaya waited outside of the embassy. It's just one of few good scenes that somewhat touch you.

Lazy Writing, weak plot, astounding visual.
18 June 2019
I enjoy this movie's fight scene a lot, but the plot are weak. The plot sometimes just not make sense and stupid. This film is combining a lot of genre, a lot to talk about, but given so small space. Maybe the entire movie just happen for 2 weeks of timeline, like something keeps happening and you don't have the time to explain, and then boom all of the sudden Alita is there, and then boom the bad guy is present.

The story, the concept, the idea are amazing, but the film didn't have the capability to tell it properly. The layers of the characters are so thin, some characters seems important, but we don't know much about their story and feel nothing attached to them. The characters doesnt have the capability to touch our heart because the film needs to tell a lot of stories and didn't developing them enough.

Confusing
2 September 2018
The plot is confusing, I cant really see the connection between stories. The worst part is the make up, how they make caucasian actors to be asian, that was done terribly and really affect the plot. I thought they are not an ordinary asian, but some kind of clone or superhuman. They looks like worf from star trek.

A lot of thinking that we could bring through a lifetime
30 August 2018
At first sight, I could tell this is a low budget movie, with poor editing and poor camera, I started to doubt this movie. If you watch a loooot of movies, than probably you doubt this movie too, how the gesture of the actors, their blocking technique, they certainly aware of the camera.

But then I started to realize, there's something more about this movie. Like expressionism art, it should not be pretty visually. A discussion that actually the same thing that we could hear from podcasts, is amazing. This is not necessarily produced as a movie, I dont feel like watching this on a theater, I'd rather watch it on my laptop, so I could just rewind parts that I missed, but thats okay and turned out great.

Eventually, I bring something for me to hold, thoughts.

A mediocre mess
25 March 2018
A lot of missed punchline CGI nice, but nothing new, just a little better than transformer or even 2012 The fight improved, but again, still mediocre. I like that fast robot with great martial art move, but you could make it faster and differ them. They erased the idea of robots from nations which really give them power in the first movie, like russia, China, USA together to fight monsters, that will be really cool. What REALLY bothered me, Japan has really low contribution in robots, although the core scene are taken in Japan. We know Japan is really advanced in robot, and gundam and godzilla is like a culture there. Guess they are busy to take chinese audience. Transformers really something in china btw. Where is the main character from the first movie? And they killed one of the core character in the first movie for nothing.

Capture the reality
8 March 2018
This movie is amazing in capturing Indonesian especially Jakarta as naked as it could. Simple people with ordinary dreams, don't really know about what the future will bring, don't care about politics, like a tiny gravel on the entire island. You mean nothing to the ruler. But when this tiny gravel suddenly got involved with the entire island, they will try to crush your tiny dream. Its a reality, the people are toyed by the ruler. They talk about hermes, vacation, election. Ordinary people talk about simple house with a little garden, and Poor people are not even dare about dreaming it. They just want to watch a pirated DVD with good sync of subtitle everyday so they could live their own dream for a moment.

Cringey
7 March 2018
Its not representing millennials, but more of exaggerating hipster culture. Im an Indonesian Millennial and I cant relate to anything on this film. Millennials are portrayed as troublemakers, a generation that dont respect older generations and other nonsense stereotypes. Maybe I could accept it if the title was "My Hipster Generation".

Don't understand the hype
23 February 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Rotten tomato 97% ? I can't believe this. This movie should have a potential to reach 8.5 at rating, but nah. The concept is terrific, there are so much things that I wanna know about wakanda, their diversity is really interesting, the concept that an african country who hide themselves from world and have the most advanced tech is really blow my mind. But we have to admit its a quite boring movie. We should know who would win the fight before the fight begin and who's come back to life, thats a problem. Its a really typical superhero movie which marvel not showed to us in thor and civil war (which is great). The joke had a lot of miss. The character is like just being made 2 minutes ago, even the main villain is not have a clear and builded character. We don't feel anything for the villain even his father is being killed by his uncle and he want to provide high tech for the better world. Suddenly the main vilain is ex american military personel with great skill and this goes nowhere, just mentioned once.

When the world start erasing the racism by giving them easiness, then it should be a disgrace to themselves. Just treat everyone the same way.

Flat
17 November 2017
Im giving 5 stars in comparing this animation to other good animation with good stories. First, the story is just mediocre, like an adult version of low budget toy story. Is not a breakthrough story, more like emoji movie kind of story. Second, I appreciate the idea of matching the story to nowadays issues, like religious and racial issues. I get the messages that they want to tell us about god and creation, human relations and love. Third, There is so many things that cannot make sense like how the foods walking, (while toy story make it more logical, like the toys is 'play dead' when there are human around.) Overall, this animation is not so bad about the meaning, but I can't really enjoy the jokes, really just flat emotions throughout the film.

A Mess
14 October 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Actually, its turn out to be great at first hours, but the ending and plot holes ruined it all. The ending is just no more than a mess, what was the director thinking? Maybe they lost the spirit or money during filming and just find another cheap solution and dump it all.

This adaptation should never been filmed, if it should end like that. It kills the character development and just pointless. The last 20 minutes is just a disaster and nonsense. But I really thought it was doing great before that, so I should give it a 4 rating for good first hour and for its nonsense 20 minutes which ruined the entire story.

This movie should have give us more thrilling and meaning rather than a disaster.

A Masterpiece of Cinematography, but quite boring.
6 October 2017
I watched this movie at 9 PM and I've been asleep for 1 minute during a scene. Its not because the movie is bad, but simply there's nothing happened in that 1 minute and I could follow the story quickly after I wake up, also the scenery is calm and beautiful, perfect for a quiet little nap. Its not a movie for you to enjoy the story (even the story is fantastic) but more like to enjoy the cinematography, as a Graphic Designer, I will definitely recommend this movie as a masterpiece reference.

As I say, the story is fantastic, but filled really slow. We have some minutes to think about the problem and try to solve it ourselves before the movie brings us the truth. So, its a movie to enjoy, for you to analyze every little detail and they give you a couple of time for that. The actors play nicely (and I adore Ryan Gosling and Jared Leto for such long time), and its not your typical Hollywood movie.

Great art, not as a movie.
10 July 2017
This film is really good aesthetically, but the script and dialogue is thin, like I found "who are you, what do you want" is pretty annoying. As an adaptation its not really bad but they left a lot of philosophical things in the original movie which eventually made the anime great. The story (although different than the original) is still great, but not explored widely, just swallow.

At least, they are doing great in art which portraying cyberpunk environment really nice. They just need to let the audience feel the environment just like the original do, when they insert a minute or more for audience to look around the city, what is really going on in this dystopian world, which we as the audience interpreted it ourselves and made the city have souls which we can relate.
