Wu Assassins (2019)
Okay, the acting sucks but...
...it's a pretty cool show. I mean I enjoyed a lot of this show. The story is multi-faceted. Kind of neat. Lots of fight scenes. There is some character development along the way.
The acting is terrible. So bad that I'm going to blame it on the director. Just didn't care.
But I still enjoyed watching it. Mindless fun.
The Monuments Men (2014)
The lowest possible outcome for such a great cast.
I didn't think it was possible to create a movie so bad with so many great stars. Trust me, this movie is just terrible. Never have I seen such lifeless performances from literally every person in a film. I have to blame the director as we know what Clooney and Blanchett and the others can do. The story has the potential for a great movie but it isn't brought to life in Monuments. At no point did I feel connected to the characters or the story. Why cast Bill Murray only to prevent him from delivering Murray antics in a film that could really use some life? It makes no sense. Clooney seemed asleep; I kept waiting for something to wake this film up; that never happened. Boring is the best way to describe it. Flat. I also had issue with the camera work. Many scenes seemed hurried having that home movie look. I wish they could remake the movie and tell it with some life and give us a reason to care. I'm sure the actual story is quite cool and worthy of telling.
Doc Martin (2004)
Charming show
Doc Martin is a charming show and delivers on its promise of warmth and fun. The setting is charming with many warm characters in the town which are juxtaposed against the cold and overly clinical main character, Doc Martin. Viewers get to explore the frailties and oddities in the human condition in all the characters including the main one. There is nothing especially great about the show; it isn't groundbreaking or overly clever. Just simple charm. The show isn't hilarious but rather amusing, nice. This is a perfect show for people tired of the overly complicated, overly preachy, overly violent, overly sexual, overly PC shows provided by US TV.
24 (2001)
Couldn't get through Season 1
The show starts off okay. Interesting at first because I wanted to see where it goes (international intrigue, spy drama, anti-terrorists, etc.) But after about 5 episodes the story is so full of holes and the plot so absurd that it became unwatchable. My wife liked it as she was hooked into the characters and didn't mind suspending any need for realism. I just can't enjoy a show where the entire plot is implausible, none of the characters are in any way believable, the protagonist is amazingly creative and successful while at the same time a massive idiot who brings the all the trouble on himself and coworkers. I just kept thinking, "why are all these good characters making such stupid decisions". I couldn't take it.
I'm only writing this review because I can't believe this show is rated so high; I need to drop it down a notch or two or five. The show is typical US TV network drivel.
