Why We Laugh: Black Comedians on Black Comedy (2009)
Beautifully Done!
Man, this documentary impressed me, no other way to put it! As a fan of music, I've always paid close attention to how music and the artists that make our music, affect our changing culture but I have never really paid attention to the cultural influence of black comedy. This documentary does a magnificent job of this. Enlisting highly credible voices including Chris Rock, Steve Harvey, Bill Cosby, Sherri Sheperd, Katt Williams and more! The documentary also shed light on unheralded greats that the younger generation may not know such as Nipsey Russel, Dick Gregory, Robin Harris and a plethora of others. What's really great about it is that although it's educational and highly informative, it remains funny and entertaining the entire way through! I can't wait for the DVD release!
When the Lights Go Out (2010)
Excellent play! Glad it's on DVD now!
This play was funny, intense, inspirational and thought provoking all at the same time. I've never seen Wendy Raquel Robinson in such a dramatic role and she did a great job. Both Lloyd and Keith Robinson put on stellar acting and vocal performances. I really liked the song Keith sang with the acoustic guitar. It was very touching. Clifton Powell normally does dramatic roles but this time around he was a comedian and showed some versatility. It's nice to see an African American play with substance. This play really makes you value the idea of family and honesty amongst the people you love. I would encourage everyone to watch this with their families and afterward discuss the deeper meaning behind the plot. I will definitely be buying this DVD today!
Friday: The Animated Series (2007)
Good Buy!
This series is on DVD now, I ended up watching the entire season the first night. It was pretty funny and made me nostaligic for the films. I really wish they had a chance to come back for another season but I guess the fanfare wasn't there the first time around.I really hope they come back with one last movie with the entire cast past and present! Honestly could anyone even imagine a Friday movie with Craig, Money Mike, Smokey, Day-Day, Pinky and Deebo? Plus the other random characters like Ezhel the crack head, Uncle Elroy and Damon. I think Ice Cube and company owe that to us fans! Who do I call to make that dream come true lol??
