Munnariyippu (2014)
Brilliant film making
Munnariyippu is one of the best Malayalam movies I saw recently. This here is an example of how brilliant story writing skills blended with good direction acted out by Mammootty can be amazing. Right from the starting credit scene to last second of the movie is a journey. A journey into C.K Raghavan. This was the only movies of its kind in Malayalam. As most of us were expecting the flashback of Raghavan in the second half or in the ending, the movie take you by surprise and the last scene can haunt you and it takes a while to understand. The writer want the viewer to chose his climax or writer want us to chose which part of Raghavan made him to that in the end. I don't know if there is any movie in Malayalam had a climax like this. After watching the movie only you realizes that every dialog, frame is relevant. The music by Bijipal is also impressive. Aparna Gopinath is improving and has done a good job in the movie. But the real show stealer was Mammootty with his shear acting skills. We cannot see Mammoottty in the movie, but Raghavan. This is the role that reminds us that why he is so important part of the industry. Unni R is very much appreciable of this amazing story. Overall its a brilliant movie for good film goers.
Grandmaster (2012)
It was thrilling, but could have been better
Looking at the big picture, it's a fine movie with a surprising climax at the end. But the movie was just ordinary. B Unnikrishnan had wonderful script and just directed the movie plainly as you would direct any movie. I didn't felt that adrenaline pumping effect on me. The soundtracks was exceptionally good especially the background scores, best for malayalam movies. Kinda sounds like its Hans Zimmer. And at last the villain after being caught comes up and confess all the process.. OMG.. can't we live out of this total concept of confess.. gross!! I'm sick of it. He should have tried something else to reveal the things, not this one. There are a lot better crime thrillers from Malayalam movies. And I don't think grandmaster is one among them standing tall my ratings 6/10 for ordinary direction
Rachcha (2012)
This movie sucks big time
I'm not from Andhra Pradesh and I don't know telugu. I watched this movie only because i couldn't get tickets for the others. I watched a Malayalam dubbed version. This movie is a frickin disaster. There's nothing in this movie that you could enjoy. First of all, the movie was predictable and the story was old and repetitive. Me and my friends were laughing our a$$es off at some of the superhuman abilities of the hero (happens in most of Indian the movies now). The story was nothing, acting was mostly overacting, I don't know anything about the songs, no character development at all, some stunts were good but most of them were unbelievable. Maghadheera was a classic while this movie is crap. Heard that this movie is a superhit in AP, it's almost killing me. these filmmakers are killing the Industry by filling some half baked cliché movies. Its a must not see movie. my rating: 1/10 (there's no more down)
1993 Bombay March 12 (2011)
One of the Best Movie from malayalam this decade
This movie is all about the chain of bomb blasts occurred in Mumbai March 12, 1993. But its not like other crappy movies we saw about terrorism. The way Babu Janardanan (writer, director) told the story was equal to some brilliant Hollywood movie. And Mammootty was equally brilliant with his 3 different appearances in the Movie. Roma wasn't bad and it is the best she could do. The movie also tell us about how a simple and Nation loving Muslim guy was forced to be a terrorist (Unni). There lot of things you wont understand or you get confused in between. But mysteries get unlocked step by step and ultimately leads to unlock the big suspense. The best part of the movie will be the way story is told hats off to Babu Janardanan and also the Story had immense depth unlike recent movies. Characterization was also good. And the whole movie takes you into it. I can understand why didn't it a success at box office, people only want to get entertained for the 2.5 hours and not be in thoughts. sad about that. its a much watch for people who love good movies. One of the Best movie in malayalam.
