Peepli [Live] (2010)
To Laugh or Not to
Indian Cinema off late has matured and produces a treat now and then. I would reckon this one was not an out of the league project of Aamir Khan but certainly an earnest effort, given that the director is on debut. The film portrays the bitter truth of rural India, mocks the Indian media and gives a tight slap on the political system and bureaucracy. I went to watch the film with the notion that the film belongs to the comedy genre, but it did not take much time for me to realize it was satire, it was pure dark humor and felt pity for all those ignorant souls in the cinema hall who are just so far away, so disconnected from real India that they could afford to laugh on such irony. It sure would have been a wakeup call for those ignorant souls if they understood the hidden satire, carefully wrapped in humor. God save those who came to watch a comic movie and went out of the hall smiling and mocking the plight of Nathu Ram. As far as acting is concerned, Onkar Das has done a very good job, despite the fact that he gets less chance to showcase his dialog delivery yet he has conveyed director's idea marvelously using his expressions. I believe he has surpassed Raghubir Yadav, who has yet again proved the point that he is still among the best in the business. One liners and abusive lashes of Nathu Ram's mother give you some respite from the serious note of the movie. Though the cast had no star power except Naseeruddin Shah and the director was a débutant, Hats Off to Aamir for delivering yet another Thought Provoking and intriguing gem. The movie succeeds in informing the ignorant urban population, population which believes India is prospering, about the truth of real India. Face the reality dude, time to wake up. A definite one time watch.
Dev.D (2009)
A Classic representation of a classic
I suppose Devdas is one novel whose depictions in Indian cinema can tell you how has the Indian cinema matured through time.Be it the Dileep Kumar's version or Shahrukh's version. Each one of them are like windows through which you can peep and get a glimpse of the Indian cinema coming of age.The same age old love story but set up in a very different environment and represented in Anurag Kashyap's own unique way.I suppose if the great Sarat Chandra Chatterjee would have been a contemporary to Anurag Kashyap Devdas may have been setup in the same environment.Talking about the cast and the movie, Abhay Deol continues to do extraordinary job in his own out of the league kind of movies. He is different and always appears in movies with a different flavor and taste. The rest of the cast was amateur but still delivered a great job, hats off to them and their director. The usage of typical Punjabi words in the dialogs have added spice to the curry. All in all a total mas-ala entertainer. With so many movies based on social awareness around these days this one being on a different track makes it a must watch.
Delhi-6 (2009)
A true musical treat with an embedded message to think rationally and still preserve the culture and values.
Don't compare this one with previous delicacy of Rakyesh Om Prakash Mehra.Yup you guessed it right RDB. That was a gem of a movie which comes out rarely of the Indian cinema. This is a much lighter version pointing to the social backwardness of the Indian Society, through the eyes of an NRI. But you need not be an NRI to see it,any educated reasonable Indian citizen can see it just in everyday life. Though it seems that the director got confused at times in focusing on the message. In a way that was also good because it gave you the chance to taste the sweetness of romance between just a perfect Next Door girl(Sonam) and a cool NRI guy(Abhishek).Certain social dogmas depicted in the movie like the untouchable Divya Dutta because she is a sweeper, might not look real to the educated urban audience, but actually it is still the undeniable truth. The movie is exactly an eye opener for such audience to come out of the dark glass cover and see modern India in bright sunlight. As far as the acting is considered everybody has done a great job. The best part of the movie is that the director has perfectly shared the screen space among all actors. Each actor has done full justice to the character he/she has played and why not all of them (apart from the leads) are well seasoned in the industry or theater. Be it Waheeda Rehman,Rishi Kapoor or Om Puri or Supriya Pathak. Special mention for Dibya Dutta , Atul Kulkarni and Deepak Dobriyal. They were just what the doctor had ordered.Perfectly suiting the roles. The sarcasm of Kala Bander is a bit stretched but very true.I feel it is a must watch at least once. Oh I forgot the icing on the cake was the music. Expected though, but Rehman has once again done a wonderful job.Though all songs are great but Genda Phool needs a special mention. It is an awesome blend of regional music and hip hop beats. Do watch the movie, get inspired and think rationally. We need rational and inspired individuals to face the winds of change sweeping the entire country :-).

A must watch .....highly inspirational movie
The movie is a must watch certainly. It installs a sense of confidence in you. It fortifies your beliefs that change is for good and even small doings by not so important people out there can a bring a huge amount of change. Do not just watch the movie feel it and believe in it. May be you are the change you are looking around for. It does give a new dimension a new hope for the good of mankind itself. It also makes you feel you are the hero of improving your own environment. As far as the movie is concerned everybody has acted really well and done a tremendous job, but especially found the character of Margaret Campbell portrayed really well. Not to mention Hillary swank has done a great job. Even with a small role the character of Scott Casey has also left a long lasting impression.
All in all watch it and feel it, you will be hopeful.
