Hostages (2013)
Finally found a show dumber than NBC's Revolution
Is "Hostages" the dumbest program on US Television? On the surface, it's about an assassination attempt of a US president but that's not what it's really about.
It's really about making working class Americans feel good about themselves because the show depicts a wealthy family (the Sanders family) among the five percenters, as the dumbest people on earth. I mean anyone with an IQ >70 has it figured out that the Sanders family will be marked for a whacking regardless of the outcome of the assassination attempt. The message is that being rich doesn't mean you're smart.
This show is structured like those campy Republic serials of the 1940s. The difference is that Republic had better actors. Each episode's story line has the same three steps:
(1) Ugly Ma and Pretty-boy Pa Sanders develop an escape plan.
(2) Ma Sanders, the dumbest physician since the Three Stooges practiced medicine in the name of Duty and Humanity, aborts the escape plan (for some idiotic reason).
(3) Dylan McDermott, the good guy turned bad guy, figures out a new way to torture the Sanderses as punishment for thinking about escaping.
One more thing... With all the unemployment in the USA, why did CBS find it necessary to go to Australia to hire an actress to play the dumb doctor? Out of 300 million Americans, not a single American looks as stupid as Ms. Collette? Also, which medical school graduated Dr. Sanders? They should have their license revoked for educating physicians with idiot level IQs.
The Green Hornet (2011)
Garbage, trash, dog manure
This is crap. I paid $2.95 to see this on PPV and I was swindled. The $2.95 could have gotten me a half gallon of gasoline. I can only feel sorry for the poor souls who actually paid $5-$10 to see this garbage in the theater. To be more specific, the acting stinks, the direction stinks, the script is asinine and Cameron Diaz is going to regret ever signing up for this abortion.
If it is supposed to be a comedy, it is not funny. If it is supposed to be action/adventure, there's no action and adventure. The only redeeming value this film has is that it is a way to kill some time when many of us have time to kill. However, you should also consider it is a way to lose a few bucks in an era where bucks are hard to come by.
Hawkins Falls, Population 6200 (1950)
Had to sit through HF to get to Howdy Doody
Remember how that show started? "In Hawkins Falls, people say...." then came the theme song, "Skip to My Lou."
I was a lot younger, like three or four and what I remember most about Hawkins Falls was that it came before Howdy Doody which was my favorite show. Could you imagine what it was like to be kid having to sit around while this soapie was talking about issues I couldn't understand, but I did know I had to sit through it to watch Howdy, followed by Rootie Kazootie, Gabby Hayes, whom I just adored, Kukla Fran and Ollie, the incomparable Captain Video and his Video Rangers and finally, my day ended because the absolutely boring John Cameron Swayze came on with the Camel News Caravan and "Today's News Today...Glad we can get together." Then as a chaser was Guy Lombardo and the Royal Canadians.
