O Cheiro do Ralo (2006)
A great Brazilian movie
Usually, when it comes to Brazilian films, it is common the themes which lies about the rich culture that shape this country or, as has happened recently, addressing the issue of urban violence. Therefore, these issues are also on the films that most Brazilians are recognized internationally. "Drained" is a different case, because it shows a Brazilian film that is not necessarily on a Brazilian theme. It tells a story about the complexity of human relations in their most obscure side, making a portrait full of dark humor. Talks about the way we transform everything into things with prices to be paid for. Selton Mello is perfect in the film, as well as the ambiance and direction. A surreal story, with great moments of humor, is what awaits the spectator of "Drained".
Avatar (2009)
Gamers (2006)
Lame...
This movie is just lame. A total waste of time and money. The jokes are predictable, the characters are so cliché and the way it talks about RPG gamers is not funny as well. The problem is that the writers seems not to know how a RPG game works and, most important, how to make jokes about this game. Of course there are a bunch of losers who play RPG like freaking retards and total losers. But for me this is not the funniest way to make jokes about this game. The story doesn't make any sense at all. Who cares about how long a game is being played? The greatest problem in this movie is that the writers and actors didn't even try to know what RPG is about to make jokes about it. I felt ashamed by watching this lame movie.
O Dia em Que Dorival Encarou a Guarda (1986)
Great Short Movie
This movie was made in a time where the Brazilian Cinema was facing a major crises. There was good movies at all but there was not money to do them and when they have money, they've made huge mistakes. This short movie by Jorge Furtado was a light in the darkness of that time. Only in 14 min long Furtado gives us a very realistic portrait about the handling of the power in Brazil. Most important than that, this short movie shows the contradictoriness of a man's struggle against this system. The main character, Dorival, is a man who desire to take a bath, however he can't because the orders came from above. The manner how he figths against this situation is amazing and intense bringing us to face moments of anguish an relief.
