Original and typically European movie
10 December 2022
Based on the trailer I expected classical portion of the escapades of Le Petit Nicolas as the most of us know them from the books. My kid with whom I enjoyed movie is fortunately twelve. I can not recommend it for younger kids, let's say under 10. They probably would find it too boring. The narrative is mostly focused on the two main authors of the books about little Nicholas, Goscinny and Sempé and their life stories with few intermezzos filled with familiar adventures of little Nicolas and his friends. There is very nonviolent interaction with little Nicolas as sometimes narrator and authors used mainly to give them space to share their amazing touching life stories. Especially Goscinny, who died in 1977, in age of only 51, was for me not so familiar figure even though everybody knows Asterix and Lucky Luke. Artistic side of animation based on Sempé's style is charming and underlines so typically European nonchalant movie.

Big Bug (2022)

Fresh conversation comedy in dystopian future
11 February 2022
After many poor projects on Netflix I have almost resigned to see something refreshing. BigBug is nothing more than conversation comedy in dystopian future with fancy CGI and blue screen effects. It reminds me another wonderful piece Le Dîner de cons. French was always excellent in these kind of movies only sometimes too slow and too long. If you take it like this and don't be lazy to read subtitles, of course if you don't speak French, you will be awarded with almost two hours of inteligent fun and extremely hilarious characters. I especially enjoyed Claude Perron as Monique.

Dune (2021)

Big disappointment
23 October 2021
After Blade runner 2049 I was not expecting much. When I stay compering Villeneuve's new film with Lynch's from 1984 this new is at least according to extremely shallow. Any characters development is totally missing. And that Lynch's movie has sometimes funny special effects and costumes, who cares, if story telling and characters are far better. After two and half hours in cinema and not to be in the half of the book. Common, CGI is not everything.
