Disrespectful story writing towards the audience
Update after Episode 7: truly a show with its story only driven by stupidity of the characters...
//Not sure how the episodes all got 8+ rates but certainly not my cup of tea.
Being a "horror" story, the only thing that gets you on your nerve is how lazily the writer forces fake crisis on the characters with nothing but seemingly limited IQ/EQ or language barrier as if they don't speak the same kind of English. Which came to me as a sparkle, yeah, why don't you arrange the family speaking only French or Japanese or even Vulcan? That'll make the storyline much more reasonable and enjoyable than this children's play.
What If...?: What If... Captain Carter Were the First Avenger? (2021)
Disgusting lazy PC manipulation setup
Less than 10mins into the first episode and I'm already disgusted by the "safe", lazy and disgusting PC setup trying to please the audience with brainless "conflict" plot. Tell me, anyone in his right mind would totally deny and seal the second best come outs of an desperate and really expensive experiment without even trying, just because "instead we get a girl"?
Yes this is the simplest and maybe most "efficient" way one could adopt to ignite the hate flame onto "oh you see these men have no respect towards women" cliché. But please, do you have any respect for the audience's common sense and IQ?
Calls (2021)
Acting without actors/actresses
Never thought I'd enjoy a mini series starring Windows Media Player visualizations (LOL) so much. You can even call it an audio book if you like. The diversity in story settings, step by step unraveling of a main storyline is so irresistible that you just can't stop watching the whole season all at once.
The acting (or I should rather say voiceover?) of every role here is something to wow to. Without knowing a single face behind those voices, I was set in the middle of intense drama knowing perfectly what the owner of them must be like on screen. No spoiler alert but be ready to shed some tears at certain point.
Hats off Apple TV+, this show is one of a kind.
The Invisible Man (2020)
Text book of lazy writing
I wasn't attracted to the tile in the first place. And I was unfortunately right.. this is a movie that you can effortlessly see what exactly is coming. And if you could think of more than one possible ways, choose the most lazy and lame one... BANG you got the right track.
More over, the director arranged the characters to behave more than often like they've got no judgement or even common sense, just because it's easier to fit in the plot.
NOT recommended unless you're watching it with your easily scared girl/boy friend who'd hug you tight every time the movie screams for some obvious reason.
*****SPOILER ALERT****
OMG as I'm writing this review the movie just bumped into the lamest part where Emily was slit dead in a PUBLIC RESTAURANT which most likely would have CCTV! officially dropping its rating from 6 to 4. Thanks guys.
****another twist****
Sorry I just wasted another 20 mins of my life on this "movie" and I have to come back and drop the rating to 3... seems like this hole has no bottom after all.
Frozen II (2019)
A mimic to the original trying too hard
Clearly the writer/director is trying at full power to bring back the magic of the original. Unfortunately it still looks like work of a student imitating some masterpiece of the great.
Resident Evil: Retribution (2012)
It's nothing about global!
Frankly speaking I was a little concerned that I didn't watch the last (two?) episodes might have given me some trouble following the lines. Nah, it turned out fine anyway... Huge thanks to the opening "Previously on R.E." minutes, didn't expect to recall my shocked memory one decade back (that scientist headed off by elevator, ouch!)
Back to our new story, Milla stays the same strong, charming and loving Alice as we knew she would be. Pretty new face (here in this movie) Li presents another style of oriental sight which suits her just fine.
That's all I have to talk about this movie, thanks for reading... No? Oh, almost forgot about the "story". Well you know, they gave you the map, weapons show up just before you finish your last bullet, monsters never die easy, and so are the leading characters, talk to NPCs for necessary help and keys to the next level then through them out of your mind unless you need to use them later (yeah lady Ada in red I'm talking about you). Baseline: watch it the way you play R.E. the game without hitting your game pad and you won't be disappointed by the childish storyline or pale dialogues and the way they read them.
But don't get your pillow ready yet, I'm not saying this isn't worth watching. Visual effects and 3D usage are cut and finely designed. Throughout the movie you'll find it enjoyable and comfortable to watch, well except when Barry (or is it him?) busted one head of strawberry jam right on your face. And moreover, the backwards scene at beginning is truly brilliant and sparkle of the movie.
One last thing, for real now, what the hell do you mean by GLOBAL in big font on your poster when the most global thing I see are the empty theme parks 100 meters under the sea? Or next time you'll build a planetarium and claim it universal?
