Scrapbook (2000)
Scrapbook Shocker !
Scrapbook wasn't the easiest of films to watch but I can't say it was a bad film. It was very graphic a lot more than I expected. Most serial killer in films take their victims behind closed doors and leave it to your imagination for these kind of scenes. Its the best 'into the mind of a serial killer' film I've scene.
The acting from Emily Haack was brilliant, it can't of been an easy role to play. The home movie style filming added to atmosphere of the film. It didn't need a big Hollywood if it had one it would not have been so gritty.
I read a few of the reviews on here to help me write this one. Some people say its poor with WWE style violence and there was nothing shocking about it. I dread to think what these people watch with their popcorn.
I thought it was shocking, not just because it wasn't quite what I expected but also because you know that these things happen in real life.
Going Overboard (1989)
This film needs throwing Overboard
Found this in the supermarket for £2 along side films like Bedazzled and Vanhelsing so thought this Adam Sandler offering would be worth a watch.
The back of the box said it was hilarious, more like tedious is you ask me. I can't understand how Adam Sandler ever appeared in any more films let alone become the comic he is now.
Nothing about the film was funny, the acting was terrible and the script was dire.
If you see this in a bargain basket near you please don't make the same make I did, you'll live to regret it.
Even if the film was given to me for free it would still be too expensive.
My hubby say its only redeeming feature was the content of the beauty queens bikinis, even if most of there faces looked like drag acts.
The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou (2004)
Don't waste your time.
I'd been wanting to see this film for some time so was pleased when I finally got to sit down to watch it.
Almost two hours later I sat there thinking what a load of rubbish. It has to be the worst film I've seen for a long time.
I read the reviews, hilarious adventure? I didn't laugh once in fact I've never been so bored.
My husband watched it with me and shares the same opinion that the film was a load of tosh.
P.S. Husband says the only redeeming feature is that Robyn Cohen has a great set of jugs and gets them out two or three times during the course of this movie. Other than that no redeeming features.
Beowulf (2007)
Enjoyable movie.
Having not read the story of Beowulf the only reference I had was the earlier film Beowulf & Grendle. Both films roughly stay true to one another until Grendle is no more then the stories seems to be quite different.
I've since read the story of Beowulf and Grendle and find that this adaptation to be less faithful than its predecessor. Some things that differ from the story I later read seem to have been altered for no reason and would have spoilt the film for me had I had a better knowledge of the story.
Despite this I found it enjoyable. And the animation was nicely done.
Experiment in Torture (2007)
Better luck next time
We generally like dodgy horrors that are made on a budget of 50p and a pie from Mrs Miggins pie shop but even one shot on half this budget would outclass this movie ten times over.
It was a seriously, seriously bad film.
I know that anyone reading this is already considering watching this film and like ourselves will probably ignore all these negative reviews and poor ratings and watch it regardless, but do it at your peril! this film really is that bad.
Watching paint dry really does seem a more interesting alternative.
Note to the film makers should they be reading; There's a Hollywood formula that says that in poor films you need to show gratuitous nudity every 20 minutes to keep the viewer interested. Husband thought the film started interestingly for the first 5 minutes that was shot in a lap dancing club but then petered out. Application of this formula would of made this film slightly more interesting though unfortunately not much better.
Poor camera work, poor lines, poor delivery, poor acting, poor effects, poor script and poor me for watching it.
Better luck next time
Osmosis Jones (2001)
Just like the contents of the colon...
I got this thinking my children would enjoy it...
The bit they liked best was when I turned it off half way through.
We didn't find it funny at all.
The body part jokes were either too corny for me to even raise a smile or way beyond my children's biological knowledge for them to understand.
The animation also seemed poor to me.
If you're brushing up for a biology exam then I guess you may find the huge list of body parts and functions some use.
Other than this I wouldn't recommend it.
Avoid !!
