The November Man (2014)
Top-notch spy thriller that leaves no stone unturned.
I have no concept how this movie has such a low rating on IMDb, foremost. The cast was excellent, the plot twisty without being convoluted, and it maintained a sense of suspense throughout. I don't know what else you're looking for in this type of movie; from where I was sitting (or standing, by the end, as being on the edge of my seat for so long was getting a bit much by then - obviously I saw this at home). Compelling, intelligent, action-packed (without overdoing it), thrilling, one of the best of this type of film that I have seen (and I've watched a LOT of movies). A pleasant reminder that this type of movie doesn't need to be constantly violent to be worth watching. Top-notch in every regard.
My Zinc Bed (2008)
Deserves a LOT more praise than a "6"!
Having read the poor rating that IMDb users gave this movie, it would be unjust of me to not chime in on this; I just felt that I had to say that this film deserved a much better score than it seems most people have given it here. If you require your movies to have explosions or nudity, then you won't like it; however if good acting and compelling dialogue that strives to touch upon deeper issues than most films dare to reach, then check this fine film out. Its' short run time flew by, leaving me wanting more from these 3 fine performers, and if any part of your life or of those you love has been touched by alcoholism I would say without reservation that it's a must see.
Super Amigos (2007)
Fantastic documentary not to be missed!
Sometimes it takes a different perspective to see a previously unrevealed beautiful truth; this film showed me one - that someone who is willing to put conscience above personal fame brings glory not just to himself but to the world we all share. This film is creatively done and wonderful; I found it inspiring to see several people that found a sense of purpose try to make the world a better place, and in the process showing the audience that there IS such a thing as a super-hero, and that the real thing is infinitely more moving (at least for this grown-up) than another fantasy character battling artificial evil. These guys are the real deal, and they understand that it's more important to do good than to be known for it. This world needs more like them, and more films like this.
Dark Town (2004)
The best bad movie I've ever seen! LESBIAN VAMPIRES A-GO-GO!
Crazy plot, good (considering the material) mixed with bad acting (listening to some of the "gangstas" urban accents fade in and out was particularly painful) and the last few minutes would be better left out (IMHO). That said, if you are a heterosexual male (such as myself), and find such things entertaining (as I definitely do), it contains bucketloads of gratuitous lesbian vampire sex with more genuine an attempt at a plot than I've seen before in such genre blending titles. Every time you see a beautiful woman in this movie (lots) it isn't long before she's intertwined with another one in inappropriate fashion. And if you can enjoy the occasional "B" movie but always wish they had more hot lesbian vampires then this is freakin' Citizen Kane. It's a touch strange - not too much blood for a vampire movie but an awful lot for softcore porn.
This movie was totally enjoyable and it made me want to hi-five the director. I'll buy a copy if I see it in a video store for sure.
