Big Boys (2023)
Relevant, smart and heartfelt coming-of-age film
So glad I caught this film at the Bentonville Film Festival. I was blown away.
Director Corey Sherman does a brilliant job balancing the all too familiar warmth and laugh-out-loud comedy of growing up. Focusing on real teenage situations, he taps into magic early in the film, inviting the audience to fall in love with the characters through fun dialogue and relatable family moments. The attention to detail on screen and incredible acting performances contribute to the subtle uniqueness of the movie, which effortlessly navigates deeply personal subject matter with ease and humor.
Excited for more of our youth (and their parents!) to get a chance to watch this movie. Not only a fun watch, but a very important one.
Drought (2020)
Honest & Heartfelt Indie
I caught this slice of life film at the Vail Film Festival and was blown away by its' subtle brilliance! We've all seen films about family and forgiveness, but never before like this.
The writing was spot on, and the performances were genuine in that raw indie way that we all love. Technically a "coming of age" film, DROUGHT manages to transcend all demographics and avoids falling into any clichés. Very unique. It effortlessly represents the unrepresented and creates space for the characters (and the audience) to learn something new about themselves. The kind of film you're excited to share - one that you can (and want to) watch with anyone. It's refreshing, to say the least!
Also, I can't believe this is the first time out for directing team, Hannah & Megan. Well done, ladies :)
