Virgin Territory (2007)
Utter failure
I love historical films and this movie appeared to be a fun filled, sexy love triangle romp through the beautiful Florence countryside. Against everything I stand for, I bought it without watching it first. BIG MISTAKE!!! The only redeeming features of this film was the countryside (magnificent), Tim Roth's acting, and the costumes (historical with a modern twist). Everything else was horrible!!!! The first 3/4 of the film is jumbled and apparently, plot less. So they fill it with boobs galore and winged penises. The love of Hayden C.'s character for Micsha B.'s wasn't even noticeable and lacked chemistry.
To sum it up I'd call it "a wannabe soft core pron". Ended up returning it for a better movie. And never again will I buy before renting!
Eragon (2006)
Kiddie Version
Having not read the books because they were of a younger written quality, I approached this movie with an open mind and came away feeling I'd seen the younger version of the film. The dragon Safira was the shining gem of this movie as were the backgrounds she flies against. The mix of feathers and scales seemed like a combo of Asian and European dragons. I thought the girl could have been completely left out and the story would have been none the worse. Maybe in the books she has significance and maybe then so does the king, who was far less than intimidating. My ending thought was isn't it sad how people pay all that money for special effects and forget the script riders. I read that there were a lot of LOTR similarities and there were...a LOT. I gave it a 5 cause I've seen worse and love dragons, and thank God for Rachel Weiz cause she saved this film from being a complete piece of crap.
Le Cinquième Élément (1997)
visually stunning, razor humor and beautiful songs!
This movie, which so many critics bashed, is a great sleeper of a film. Chris Tucker, who wasn't famous for Rush Hour yet, carries the backbone of this movie. His portrayal of Ruby Rhod was hilarious-almost pants wetting. You'll find yourself telling others of his scenes only to be interrupted by laughter. The Diva sequence is magnificent. Her voice is haunting; allowing the viewer to be swept away, eyes closed, to some quiet place of shifting shadows and silver. The futuristic NY is believable, and the cab is sweet. Gary Oldman's character is a lame and disturbing. He seems like some badly dressed, limping, closet gay with a ridiculous accent. The Mangalores were more evil than him. A better movie than most give credit. Kudos to the priest and Ruby Rhod, and LeeLoo-they are the true stars of this sci-fi film.
Strangers on a Train (1951)
sad disappointment
After reading the comment before this, the plot, and a medium fan of Hitchcock, I was terribly disappointed with Strangers on a Train. The beginning plot was so horribly done-when did Guy indicate it was a deal or it even agreed with him? Anne Morton was the smartest one in wanting to go to the police. Any sane person would see Bruno was obsessed and disturbed, and believe poor Guy. As for the suspense, where was it?! The creep factor entered only when Bruno stalked Miriam and the suspense existed when Bruno was trying to get Guy's cig lighter from the drain. I'd recommend it only to die hard Hitchcock fans.
