The Gabby Petito Story (2022)
Gabby Petito - Never Goes Outside
The good - Brian Laundry - what an actor - absolutely spot on. He's every bit the awkward jealous, insecure Brian Laundry we've seen on footage. The scene where he kicks off in the cafeteria is probably one of the best scenes in the film.
The bad - Gabby Petito - the over acting, cringe voice she puts on in an attempt to sound like Gabby footage is dreadful. Because she's way older too than Gabby was it comes across immature.
The ugly - sad to learn that the Petito family wasn't approached and that nothing was donated to their foundation.
Thora Birch trying to keep her hand in acting by directing/producing this probably wasn't the wisest of choices in what appears to be a money grab and wasted opportunity to get the real story across about who Gabby Petito was and why her tragic death and story is so important.
Fall (2022)
'You didn't think your scrawny ass could pull me up did you!'
Probably one of the best lines in a film for a long time.
Fall - the good.
Most of the acting is great. Two young idiots doing idiot things completely unprepared for a problem.
Lining up some of the ending scenes in the beginning of the film is great imagination ie the life hack.
The twist is great. Some of you may guess it others not.
Some of the ideas to help the situation is novel.
The bad.
Hunter is the worst friend in the world. Puts her in danger and betrays her.
Leaning over a ledge to take a pee without disturbing the climbing equipment?
The back story of Dan and his infidelity. Was that really necessary?
The lack of complete and utter unpreparedness of the women just wasn't believable. No battery packs? No food. Really?
My iPhone never has lasted overnight when using it the way these two were.
Vultures swooping around the women all the time and attacking a live person? Don't they feed from carcasses?
The what on earth?
The ladder wasn't continuously joined all the way up. There was breaks in it. So how did it break 'all the way off?'
When using the rope to fish for coverage or climb down why didn't they just tag it lower? Bottom run of the ladder at the top.
Egg drop challenge the phone may have smashed on impact but it would have found signal at some point near the ground meaning the message theoretically would have been sent.
Superhuman Becks can still climb and move around normally with an infected leg.
Overall a very highly entertaining film. Just suspend your belief and go with the entertainment.
The Reckoning (2023)
Dear Jim, please can you fix it for us to bring you back?
And make you pay for what you did to all those innocent children and people? Never mind the warnings of never being alone with Jimmy how about Jimmy not being there in the first place!
Steve Coogan was tremendous. I didn't know he used to be an impressionist. But this is probably why he got it so right. The creep. The arrogance. The nasty piece of work. The pervert.
The following of Jimmy's life and how he managed to carry on with his crimes in plain sight was interesting. He himself knew what was being said about him but he knew he brought the money in so he wouldn't be stopped or challenged. 'If anything's being said about me you'll speak up for me won't you..?'
Amazing how he kept the company of people who were just as bad as him. I didn't realise Jaconelli in Scarborough was a peadophile too. That's my childhood in Scarborough right there ...
It's a real shame we can't drag him back from the dead to face real reckoning. Just think to him he died a hero's death.
M3GAN (2022)
She'll Be Back
Those likening the doll to the Chucky series have simply forgotten that Chucky is supposed to be a doll possessed by a man mad. Megan is a toy doll AI programmed to work with your child. The fact she turns out more like the spawn of a terminator is another issue.
Those saying this film is garbage has been watching something else. Yes it's not a conventional horror. Megan doesn't wander around in a mask stalking babysitters. But it's most certainly a thriller. Starts off really well with the backdrop of the lead losing her family. This leads into the production of the AI and some of the things this AI does when she's learned too much is just fabulous. Check out the parts where she gets rid of the horrible kid and when she gets rid of the factory boss!
Anyway without giving too much else away - oh by the way the end scene is reminiscent of Aliens (get away from her you b*tch) all in all it's worth a watch.
