Edison (2005)
I thought it was good and I'm not a gushing JT fan
First off, I'm not some Justin Timberlake fangirl obsessed with making him look good, in fact I'm not even a huge Justin fan, but I did like this movie.
I work at a video store and when I saw this movie with its huge cast that I'd never even heard of I had to see what it was about. I didn't find Justin's acting that bad, it was clearly the worst out of the group, but it's a pretty impressive group, with Cary Elwes and Dylan McDermott being two names that didn't even make the first credits list. The story is basic, a journalist uncovering corrupt cops, but I found it well done. L L Cool J's character was clearly conflicted, but I honestly didn't know what he would do in the end. Morgan Freeman is as always, the wise mentor figure he does so well, and as much as I love Kevin SPacey, he was kind of just there. HIs character didn't have a whole lot of substance, but it's Kevin Spacey, he can do no wrong.
Surprisingly I thought Dylan McDermott gave the best performance as a homicidal cop. Truly believable and really in character, he freaked me out a couple of times.
I was really expecting a lot of cheesiness to be honest. Horrible catchphrases, unjustified action sequences, stuff like that, but it was surprisingly well done and I didn't find any of that. Every shooting had a point, it wasn't clichéd, pretty solid really.
overall, amazing cast, decent story that kept me interested and just enough action to make me jump. I don't know why it didn't appear in theatres, it was better than some garbage I've seen on the big screen. I would say it's worth seeing.
Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl (2003)
A fantastic achievement
I was really looking forward to this film, and I'll admit it was mostly because I am a huge Orlando Bloom fan, but I was amazed and astounded by the greatness of this movie. I actually expected mediocre and got mind blowing amazingness. After seeing so many disappointing films lately it was great to see something that simply blew me off my feet.
Every aspect of this film was wonderful and I can think of nothing bad to say. The script was well written, the plot actually worked and wasn't just silly, the action was fast and intense but easy to follow which I love, the effects were ASTOUNDING!!!! The love storyline was there but didn't take up much screen time which was great because that's not what the movie is, it's an adventure, not a romance.
But the dialogue was so crisp and Jack Sparrows really made this movie something special. Even without saying anything, just a look or hand gesture worked great, but his spoken words were cutting and extremely delightful. The rest of the cast was also phenomenal, though Depp clearly sticks out as amazing. Bloom did great in his first real lead I've seen and was a perfect straight man for Depp, Knightley surprised me with her abilities and her great screen look. The supporting cast did their job as well.
Overall I gave this movie a 10/10 because I believe it is possibly the most entertaining film I have EVER seen and I have seen many. The hours flew by and I actually wished it was longer. I have absolutely nothing bad to say, and I can't express enough how much I loved and enjoyed this film. I will be seeing it again several times.
Thir13en Ghosts (2001)
It did what it went out to.
I liked this movie. It went out of its way to give us a scare with a compelling, original story and it had some great effects to back it up. The ghosts were the most realistic and scary component of the movie, if I had been younger the nightmares would have started the minute I saw the juggernaut. The pace was fast moving, it was interesting and there were a mile a minutes thrills. The DVD features are great, giving each ghost an individual back story.
The ending was a bit corny and could have used work but it generally flowed with the story. I loved Matthew Lillard and thought he dawned the psychic well, I could feel his tension at all times. The father, Arthur was also good I thought. He loved his kids.
So I liked it, and I would recommend it for a good and interesting night.
The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (2001)
My new favorite movie!
I saw this movie four times and would have went more if it had continued playing here. The artwork and computer animation was spectacular, the acting was amazing (Elijah did a wonderful job), and the world of Elves, Hobbits, and Dwarves really came alive to me. It stayed as true to Tolkien's work as I think possible, having only three hours to show it all. Every character was portrayed wonderfully and true to Tolkien. It was a fabulous movie and I am eagerly awaiting the next two!
