Rembrandt en ik (2011)
Beautiful depiction of Rembrandt life
This TV series is a beautiful dedication to not just Rembrandt's work, but also his life and the people around him. There are four episodes, each from a viewpoint of someone who played an important part in Rembrandt's life. Two episodes are played by the wonderful Dragan Bakema, who plays Rembrandt as a temperamental, passionate and eccentric icon. The second part is played by the great Michiel Romeyn, who manages to capture perfectly the flawed and tormented man behind the great Dutch painter. He is haunted by his past, the loss of his wife, and later his son, his financial troubles and relationships around him. The sheer pureness of how he translates this into the emotion, without overacting, is making Michiel a vastly underrated actor. Dragan and Michiel lift these series up to a higher level by their supreme acting. The fact that these series are accompanied by beautiful, dark music, lots of his paintings and background stories and lovely main and side actors, make these series an interesting, moving and beautiful watch for anyone interested in history, art, Rembrandt, Dutch historical figures or everything above. Therefore I cannot agree with the rating on IMDB. For me, 'Rembrandt en ik' shines in its simplicity, raw emotion, humanity and beauty. For that reason, this will always be the most beautiful Dutch TV series I've ever seen, and one of the most interesting in general.
The Old Way (2023)
Good 'Old Style' Western
Good watch, enjoyed the old style father - daughter Western. Based on the critics, we wouldn't have gone; nonetheless we decided to give it a try. We are glad we did. It is not at all a bad movie, rather it was a goof watch, enjoyable moments and a nice slow storyline and wonderful acting by the daughter. The critics are too harsh, and it truly baffles me how people can be so negative about this wholesome movie and give a flop like Ant-man 3 a good rating. It all boils down to personal taste I guess. We had a good watch and can recommend this to anyone who has the patience and appreciation for a simple, wholesome Nick Cage Western movie.
