Code 8: Part II (2024)
Mediocre
It could have been a grounded, gritty story about uprising or something similar, show different perspective and point of view but no, who loves a clever story anyways. Instead, we get an unimaginative, boring movie riddled with plot holes which drags for too long. People have these amazing powers but doesn't use it, powers get depleted at the exact time when they need them the most. Let's put a kid in a movie and build everything around him. Complete lack of world exploration and an authoritarian cop who does everything other than taking right actions, like not even trying to save his own life while having powers. Who writes this and thinks this will make a good movie.
Poor Things (2023)
Don't take it too seriously
It's a witty movie with some of the very unique and innovative design choices and camera work, but it's weird for the sake of being weird. It has a very dreamy aesthetics but there is no substance to it.
I don't know, I didn't see any deeper meaning to it other than it's a fun movie that drags maybe for a bit too long. I dint take it too seriously and maybe you shouldn't too, it's not for everyone. I usually have no problem with nudity and violence in movies but if there can be less "furious jumping" maybe it'll be better, it just simply doesn't add much to the narrative.
Usually with anything weird and bizarre there're movie snobs breathing down you neck explaining how it's intellectually heavy and a masterpiece. It's kind of human tendency to find something that simply isn't there and that might be going on here.
Scavengers Reign (2023)
Something Original
Really fascinating, grotesque and beautiful. Although it's more like a sci-fi fantasy than proper sci-fi.
Even if you are a fan of sci-fi and have viewed shows and movies like Aliens, Raised by the wolf or played games like Soma or Sable or have read novels like Eden you'll still find lots of captivating things which are different and unique. From time-to-time lot of things does not make any sense, poorly explained, or not explained at all but if you can look past that animations are beautiful most of the time.
Characters is where it falls apart, they are mediocre lacks depth and takes dumb decisions. The robot Levi has more personality than all the characters combined. The characters are as good and clever as the writers and they did a poor job.
If you are not interested in show's unique environment, then there's nothing to hold the viewers in. And knowing titmouse studio track record we might have to wait a long time for Season 2 if it's planned.
The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes (2023)
Weakest in series
Whole story goes nowhere, as a viewer I have no idea what to make of Snow, why should I be invested in knowing about the character and his motives. Maybe relevant in next part IDK.
Lead actress of "Lucy Gray" was downright obnoxious, maybe it's the way she is written, or the way actress delivers her dialogues, and the idea of singing doesn't make any sense.
Games have no tense moments name a cliché character and they have it, it all looks cheesy and ridiculous.
I was expecting some good world building know more about people life's, conflicts ideology behind hunger games and why it's important but it's all underwhelming. All in all glad that I didn't watched the movie in theaters.
Blue Eye Samurai (2023)
Quite good
First two episodes are really something else. After 5 episode I must call it quit. Overall show is gorgeous, beautifully scenic, have rich environment, cool and brutal swordfight which are well done with fluid animations and is well complimented by soundtrack.
Story is very female centric, while I was expecting something balanced like castlevania nor it's well done like Arcane where everyone is not just comically evil. It's riddled with inconsistencies with trope of typical modern women are strong and men are weak. Main character is not only skilled but also stronger than all the counterpart which happens to be all men for no reason other than training montage and that cringy weight removal scene. Nor does revenge plot makes much sense. Everyone is ruthless, comically evil, dumb and incompetent or non threatening except main character.
Series is enjoyable but certainly not 9 or 10 and comparing this to kill bill seriously? Main character in kill bill earned it.
Amadeus (1984)
Brilliant peice of work
It's been in my watch-list for a very long time, never thought I'll enjoy it much more than I've anticipated. Every character is great set designs and locations looks absolutely phenomenal.
Operas are great to watch and the way they convey stories is fascinating. The Salieri & Mozart dynamics is one of the best I've seen so far. Movie doesn't stand out to me in any particular way but it's sublime, easy going with right pacing. There isn't a bad actor or any underwhelming moment here.
I guess this is why these movies are called classics, they do everything good they are timeless and are a delight to re-watch.
Transformers: Rise of the Beasts (2023)
Monke Business
Sir primal is the only redeeming character in this movie and movie's name is "Rise of the Beasts" yet it seems like they were barely involved in the movie. Instead, we got incompetent Optimus prime who has same set of dialogue in almost every part.
Annoying and diverse humans which are certainly not needed and looks out of place.
Dull story because who loves a good story anyway. Generic and stupid villains who just loves to talk and takes most braindead decisions possible.
There's no originality, creativity nor I expected those in the first place but it even failed to do what it's supposed to be i.e., a nice sci-fi action flick with cool CGI and blasts.
John Wick: Chapter 4 (2023)
Great action weak movie
This is a good action movie with likeable characters, innovative camera work with amazing lightening. I can see people saying there's too much neon-cyberpunk feel to it and that's true but rather than looking mishmash they blend well together and looks striking.
As someone who didn't get to watch this in theaters I watched it on OLED TV and it just looks phenomenal, pallets are striking, it got tones of depth and contrast.
Action sequences are a mixed bag for me, although camera work is steady, zoomed out so we get to see how things are being executed in respect with how things are moving in background with few cuts and few camera angle changes which creates coherent scenes.
Sequences felt a bit stretched out and looked too much choreographed, lack of uncertainty and felt like people waiting for things to happen just to move on to the next scene. Falling from second or from stairs guy just brushes up and get back to action. All suits are now bullet proof forgetting bullets carry lot of momentum and hurt like nothing regardless, here they just use suit like shield which looks laughable and there are many more nonsense scenes like these.
"John wick" character is the one which I most disliked, he has no motive, talks couple lines in couple different languages which certainly doesn't look cool.
"John Wick: chapter one" is still my most re-watched movie of the series but I think after all it's flaws this part is has move re-watch value than other parts.
Poker Face (2023)
Great first episode
Great first episode 8/10 after that everything seemed crashing down. Watched till episode 4 and not interested in finding out what happens next.
Main character is annoying and hardly likable who seems to find crime at every place she visits and apparently having gift of knowing who is lying she also is world's smartest detective who is able to solve every case with as much little details as possible.
At murder scenes cops just leaves evidences untouched so that later main character at their timely convenience can find them, even with most trivial matters like checking apparent things such as "dash cams" or asking right questions has to come from the main characters on top of that things are just there to reveal themselves at convenience of plot.
Puss in Boots: The Last Wish (2022)
Really enjoyable
Great voice acting, animation every character is quirky, distinguished and likable like puss'es beard. Surprisingly villain was very likable too, action sequences are well done and flows.
It would be great if we get to see some old characters but not complaining.
And for some reason I have to write an essay of 600 words to review which seems dumb and it might also discourage many people wo write reviews this long because no one wants to write review this long.
But I really appreciate people who come here and write a review and making helpful for all of us.
How is this still not 600 words??
Foundation (2021)
Don't call it Foundation
It's loosely adapted from the book and main character's performances is uneven & lousy at best also majority characters are uncompelling and acts out with total stupidity.
The story is supposed to deal with psychohistory "branch of mathematics which deals with the reactions of human conglomerates to fixed social and economic stimuli"
Instead, we get a lazy, dull & senseless writing where loved characters are changed and destroyed, things don't make sense like space traveling where it's supposed to take years but here everything is happening in real-time like taking a metro to reach different part of city.
Once you start to question why then everything starts to fall apart like some superhero flick.
4/10 is being generous, just because of really good Lee Pace and Jared Harris performance.
