It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia: The Gang Texts (2019)
Some scenes that reminded me of old IASIP
The episode starts really promising. The early scene with Mac and Charlie arguing about silly stuff felt like an early season almost, in terms of acting.
But after that, the jokes and delivery just feels so forced. The comfy nuttiness of the show is nowhere to be found. It feels like someone else wrote this episode, even though it seems it was the gang who wrote it.
Like many, I only get a chuckle here and there with this season's episodes so far. Sometimes it even feels cringe, and in a completely different way than when the show was so damn good. Maybe part of it is that the actors sometimes feel like they don't even think themselves that the scene is funny.
Obi-Wan Kenobi: Part II (2022)
Better than first one, but still awful
Boring story. Reva is lame as a villain and the actress is just not believable at all. Leia's kid got even more annoying. Maybe little kids will enjoy this.
Really feel bad for brilliant McGregor.
Obi-Wan Kenobi: Part I (2022)
Atrocious, except for McGregor
For the first few minutes I was hopeful, but this first episode was just awful in the end. The story is not captivating in the least, and all the new characters look silly and do not look the part at all as sith. The writing is lame. "The jedi hunt themselves". Bleh. Must've thought that was really clever, eh?
Ingram in the her role has zero ability to actually seem intimidating, and comes off as a wannabe tough guy. Her whole presence screams "I'm acting, I'm tough!". Han from Fast & Furious seemed like poor cosplay and a laughable voice. Leia's child actor is annyoing and I can't imagine anyone actually wants to watch anything revolving around this character. We will see if the show focuses on her more or not.
McGregor, on the other hand, shines and I really wish this show was really about him, but I am already getting the vibe this will not be the case.
Oxygène (2021)
Great Scifi, we need more original stuff like this
Great lead actress, interesting premise, good execution, keeps you hooked. Of course there are plot holes. When did you ever see a SciFi movie that someone could not come up with plot holes for? Yeah.
These kind of gem SciFi movies make me want a series in the world of the movie with the same quality. Too bad they never come.
The Block Island Sound (2020)
We need more movies like this
For people who like Lovecraft type of slow-burn thriller with psychological elements, this is for you. I thoroughly enjoyed the film due to the atmosphere. No jump scares needed.
If you liked for example Color Out of Space (2019) you'll maybe like this one.
Ivalo (2018)
On the right track, but falls flat in the end
I was positively surprised by Ivalo or "Arctic Circle". The English was not cringe, the actors were decent, and the sceneries work. Nice cinematography.
The pacing and writing is just all over the place sometimes and the plot doesn't move forward at a reasonable pace - unfortunately.
This is a promising example, though, of what could be. Maybe in the future we will see similar shows with better writing.
The Game Changers (2018)
Very interesting, but was left wondering about Fish in diet!
Liked the documentary immensely (will likely eat less meat, but not go full plant based). However, I found it odd they did not talk about fish specifically almost at all, just putting it in the same animal base category.
Surely fish is healthier than a steady diet of red meat -- yet in none of their tests did they make a red meat vs. fish vs. plant comparison.
Watchmen (2019)
Sad, so much potential, but it turns out to be some kind of experimental project?
Not sure what they were thinking here. It is clear that this show could have had immense success due to the popularity of the original comic and the movie. But the creators just went the completely other way, and wanted to "create something new" I guess.
Well, the result is a mess, at least based on the pilot. As someone mentioned in another review, not a single character in this Pilot caught my interest in a way that would keep me watching. I will check Episode 2 just to make sure, but with muuuuch lowered expectations.
I really wish they at least chose some more appropriate music that would create an atmosphere that actually fits "Watchmen".
Ghost in the Shell (2017)
Dumbed-down and shallow adaptation cherry-picking the cool action scenes
Dumbed-down and shallow adaptation cherry-picking the cool action scenes. Thats how I would summarize this adaptation of GitS
Although a big fan of the original, I couldn't care less about the white-washing controversy surrounding the movie. I went in with an open mind.
Unfortunately the only times this movie entertains is when they are copying the best action parts of the original or TV series that came after. Other than that it is a simplified borefest with no substance, as so many have said before me here.
Music was good Blade Runner style stuff and visuals were nice in this movie. If they had written an actual good cinematic experience to accompany that this could have been a classic like Blade Runner.
This "movie" looks more like a prolonged TV episode or high budget Pilot for a TV show.
