Sniper Special Ops (2016)
This movie is an insult to any fan base Segal once had.
I tried watching this movie today and failed. The once great Steven Segal, renoved action star of Under Siege not to mention his martial art and music career, has released this movie on to us and my god was it hard to watch. Although maybe difficult to believe I got excited seeing the poster for it and boy was I let down.
First shot of the movie features Segal with a goatee and mustache rendering him almost unrecognizable and then after 13 minutes of you watching the screen wondering when something is gonna happen something happens. Spoiler alert not even the action scenes are any good. Hope I didn't ruin the surprise.
The G.I. Joes of the movie then just leave their champion sniper along with his partner right there and run away.
I can't believe someone actually made this movie. Don't watch it.
Enter the Void (2009)
Beautiful film, but very drawn out.
Although the movie is told in a very unconventional way and contains some excellent camera-work, the length of the film and acting left me feeling frustrated. By the end of the last "scene" I was pretty much just mad and talking/yelling at the movie for being so ridiculously bloated with footage. This movie could easily have been 40 minutes shorter and by that effect have been rated much higher by myself.
Noe should have taken some constructive criticism from editors out there and cut out some of the scenes in the film. Sure a film can be more than 3 hours long (this one is "only" 2 hours and 40 minutes), but that requires more story and scenes need to contain more importance towards the plot. By comparison the film Novocento is around six hours total and while slightly frustrating, the length could be justified in it's depth of plot and acting.
This movie depicts one day in the two lead characters life, plus a number of flashbacks to their childhood, used to explain their complex relationship. I liked the way the main characters actions are explained later in the film, making us sympathize with him later on in the film, but this does, as I've mentioned earlier in this review, not excuse the run time of this particular flick.
