The Killing of a Sacred Deer (2017)
Convoluted artsy fartsy bore
Yorgos Lanthimos is starting to become such a pretentious bore. Please Hollywood stop funding his productions. Oh wait your system loves him because he will push any propaganda you have to sell.
Stockholm (2018)
Good acting
This film was a lot of fun to watch, even though the script had a hard time explaining a lot of the psychological behaviors that turned Bianca into a gushy goo goo eyed follower of the robber that comes to and robs the bank that she works at. Amazing acting is what carries this film Noomi Rapace and Ethan Hawke where a great a team.
You Were Never Really Here (2017)
Compassionate brutality
I really loved the subtle strength of this character Joe and how Phoenix played it to compassionate brutality. What we have here is a complete F'd up veteran who's PTSD is off the charts from seeing too much, mostly in his past he witnessed a big trafficking net work of young girls. Completely broken from this experience he becomes a hitman for a small rinky dink agency where he is hired out to save a politicians young daughter. When Joe quickly locates her and about to leave with her he is ambushed shot in the face and the girl is taken again. There are some incredible tender scenes where after Joe shoots an operative that they lay down on the floor together singing a song together that is playing on the radio. Joes weapon of choice is a hammer, because that was what he father used on his mother. The whole movie is artisticly filmed and directed and the sound editing was so new and amazing. If you like films like John Wick then I highly suggest this one.
Girl Next (2021)
Spiritual battle royal.
I watched this because it is supposed to be about human trafficking, it was more than that. More like what is the driving force of this industry, its not just about the money but is a spiritual battle of sorts.
So you have this girl who gets kidnapped and brought to a ranch where she is injected with psychotropic drugs that open the portal in her mind to be brainwashed. You have this husband and wife team (good acting) who conduct the experiments but also they consume vast amounts of drugs themselves. The local sheriff is in on the enterprise in exchange for having sex with the dead bodies that seem to be hanging around and rotting. Ya its pretty gross. Then there is another woman who is held captive and she helps the girl escape, this woman is nuts but seems to explain the whole situation in one dinner conversation.
There is a lot to grasp in this film and I don't know if I completely got it but what I think this was about is, placing a sleeper agent into a human trafficking network in order to blast them all away. But who was controlling the girl is never explained. All in all this is a film that taps into a lot of conspiracy theories and hallucinogenic experiences. It's well filmed and the gross out factor is high. But I like that kind of stuff.
Kimi (2022)
Could have been edited down to 30 minutes
Could have been edited down to 30 minutes but still it was an interesting story and a sign of the big brother times we live in. Zoe Kravitz surprised me with her ability to hold back emotion and then bam, she gets mid-evil and obliterates the nasty ones.
Shi cheng (2014)
If you like Zombie movies
Joe Chein makes the most realistic zombie movies. The acting is realistic and puts you into the situation. Its almost like he has a prophetic vision of the future.
