Avatar: The Last Airbender (2024)
Not bad at all...
So my first step into TLA world was the horrible, 2010 movie. I didn't watch the animated show until last year, but I will say, this new show does do justice to the animated show. While I wouldn't quite put it on the same level (because it's always difficult to beat the original version of any show), it's not too far off, and it's a thousand times better than the 2010 movie. While this new show isn't exactly 100% in line with the animated show, it is close enough that you don't really notice it. The SFX aren't too over done to the point of being ridiculous, and the writing was done so that it was able to condense a 20 episode animated season, into 8 episodes and not really miss anything (unlike how the movie did..). Can't wait for season 2.
Ahsoka (2023)
Filoni is a Genius!
"Ahsoka" is easily one of the best, if not THE best Star Wars TV show to date. I'd even put it on par with Mando. The way Filoni mixes in a new show with the stuff that has come before it (namely "Clone Wars" and "Rebels"), then also throws in stuff from the EU, making it canon, there's not many people that can pull that off and not only make it entertaining, but also make it true to all three. Yes there's "filler episodes", but that's with any series. But in "Ahsoka", we have a show made by a lifelong Star Wars fan, made for lifelong Star Wars fans. I just hope Kennedy gets smart and hands the "Star Wars keys" to Filoni, with a blank check, and says, "Do whatever you want. You're in control of everything Star Wars now."
Andor (2022)
Worst Star Wars Series Ever. Even worse than "Resistance".
I can't begin to put into words how awful this show is. They advertised this show as a spy TV show, it was anything but. I was a long, boring, drawn out, show that had one dead end arc after the other. Almost half of the "main character arcs" had nothing to do with anything and went no where. I thought they may have been setting it up to have one, big, blow out of a reveal finale, but even the finale was more of the same. Maybe they're setting it up for some big season 2, I don't know, but even if they do, it's still going to take a LOT to cover up the blunder that was season 1. I just hope they fire all of the writers for season 1, if they don't, I don't see this show getting any better.
The Matrix Resurrections (2021)
Lana Wachowski hits another home run.
Ok first off, there are going to be the haters out there that are going to say, "Oh it's not the first one" or "It's not as good as the original Matrix movie". Well no duh. The original "Matrix" movie is an epic, once in a generation type film. The only time a sequel has been as good or better than the original is "Godfather 2" and "Empire Strikes Back".
Now, with all that said and out of the way, if you are a "Matrix" fan, and loved all three movies and not just the first, I promise you are going to love this one too. The SFX are what we are used in a "Matrix" film, action scenes are good, the fighting scenes are good too.
But the two things that really made this movie for me was the casting and the writing. I won't spoil it, but Neil Patrick Harris was the PERFECT person to play "The Analyst" and Jessica Henwick is just amazing in everything she does. The writing was absolutely spot on. Wachowski took the story, explained everything that needed explaining like they did in the original film, filled in the gaps of what happened between "Revolutions" and "Resurrections", and even made jabs at the studio for wanting a sequel in the process. What Wachowski did with this film is what J. J. Abrams should have done with "The Force Awakens".
I rated it a 9/10 because there are a couple of things that don't quite make sense, and also the fight scenes were a little too "sloppy" with people just everywhere on screen instead of the "clean" fight scenes we're used to seeing in "The Matrix" trilogy. All in all, my favorite film of 2021 and I hope this is the start of another trilogy.
The Witcher (2019)
In-freaking-credible
I have never played any of the "Witcher" video games, nor read any of the books, so I was wondering if I would be able to pick up and understand the story, and also get into it.
I'll be honest, the first time I watched the first season, I was confused most of the season, but I think that's what the writers were wanting. Needless to say, after binging the first season, I was so hooked that I binged it two more times in a row.
This show is beyond excellent. Incredible writing, perfect casting, acting deserving of awards. The only complaint I have is that a season is only 8 episodes. I hope this show goes on for years!
Star Trek: Discovery: The Examples (2021)
That's better...
Now we are getting back to the traditional "Star Trek" episode recipe we all know and love. The past couple episodes have been borderline awful, but this one has climbed back up a few notches.
It was nice to see multiple story arcs going on at once, and it was also very refreshing to see Burnham wasn't the saving grace of all. Let's hope the rest of the season is more like this episode and not like episodes 4.3 and 4.4.
Star Trek: Discovery: All Is Possible (2021)
Seriously??
How can we go from the incredible seasons of Disco 1 and 2 to this? I mean really? I know Michelle Paradise came on as one of the showrunners last season, but did they fire all of the original writers and bring in a bunch of liberal, touchy-feely monkeys to come up with the story lines? Ok yes, the first episode seemed to have promise with the destruction of a planet, but we are a third of the way through the season, and they haven't even really begun to go after it, or solve the problem yet? This is Star Trek people! If this was TNG or DS9 it would have been done in a two episode story arc with 23 or 24 more equally as good to follow it. I just hope that they don't do the same disservice to Picard Season 2 as they have done to Discovery Season 4.
