The Distance Love Will go
Mizra asks his sons, Barat and Audeh, to go on a journey to find his ex-wife, Hanareh, and help her. His sons think they are still married and she ran away. The father won't tell them the real truth because he knows they won't help him if they're not still married. He has been told she is in trouble, but he doesn't know how.
Mizra went on the journey to find Hanareh, Barat just went along for the ride, and Audeh went to find himself a wife that could produce him a son. I thought this movie was interesting because it kept you wanting to know what happened next. On their journey they had many stops to try and find out exactly where Hanareh was. At each of the stops it was as though something else aside from finding her was going on with one of the brothers.
Since the movie was in Kurdish, Persian, and Arabic reading the subtitles made it harder to pay attention to every detail that was going on in the movie, but didn't keep me from understanding what was going on. The subtitles were hard to read at some points because they were yellow and it seemed to blend in at times. This was when my attention was taken away from the actual picture part of the movie to try and understand what they were saying. It was easy though to get back into the movie after I understood what they were saying.
Since this is a more romantic movie with them being in the search for love I think women would enjoy this movie more than men. The long journey the family takes all in the search for love ends up being broken up. In the end not everyone finds what they were looking for
or did they?

Children of Heaven
Children of Heaven The main focus of this movie was on the children. The setting you see is what you would see as the child. (From a child's level) The adults are seen in the background, but have little to do with the action going on in the movie itself. Even when Ali is running through the alleys trying to hurry and get to school the camera is still at his level showing what he sees. The pace of the shots also depends completely on what the kids are doing. This movie does a great job of showing how a kid in this area lives.
I like how the film shows how close Ali and Zahra are. He feels terrible about losing her shoes and is determined to get her a new pair when he knows he'll never find her old ones. Zahra tries to threaten Ali by saying she is going to tell mom or dad, but he promises if she just gives him a little more time he will work it out. He allows her to borrow his shoes for school and meet him in the alley go exchange so he can make it to school. He is late multiple times because of the exchange, but still won't tell his parents he lost her shoes. He becomes determined to get into the race to win her a new pair of shoes that he cries and begs his teacher to let him try out even though it's past the try out date. He promises him he will win, but he doesn't mention he only wants to win third place. The whole movie revolves around the guilt Ali feels for losing the shoes and his determination to get her some new ones.
