Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga (2024)
Just AS good as Fury Road!
The title says it all.
This is a great and worthy prequel that leads directly into Fury Road. Beautifully shot with great action and awesome performances from everyone. Not sure how some people are throwing out 5's and 6's on here. They clearly didn't watch the same movie as I did. Besides the incredible action, the film has a large amount of heart and backstory than I expected it to have. Not sure if this is the last movie in George Miller's "Mad Max saga" but I certainly hope not. If they can somehow keep cranking these films out, I'll be there each and every time.
Furiosa deserves to be seen in theaters.
Such a wild, fun and relentless ride.
John Wick: Chapter 4 (2023)
"Yeah...."
The John Wick franchise has never let me down.
The first John Wick film stands out because at that time, no one had ever seen an American action movie pull off some of the sequences that it did. It had a clear and simple story about revenge. You hurt someone and something I loved and now I'm coming after you. The first film is flawless.
The second film took what we already knew of John Wick and what he is capable of and raised the bar a little.
Even though people can't stand Chapter 3, I always thought it did a pretty awesome job in expending on the lore and world surrounding this character. It had phenomenal action sequences and visually, it was beautiful.
In my honest opinion, JW4 is the best entry of this entire franchise. Yes, even better than the original. This film has a near 3 hour run time that never feels like it and that entire time is filled with non-stop action. I find it incredible how these films could continue to pump out jaw-dropping moments four movies in but, yup, they definitely did it here. It's also got a lot of heart. For a movie that absolutely needs no expansion of story to please it's core audience, this movie still had it. The new characters that are introduced are awesome as well. Donnie Yen's Caine is probably my favorite character in all of the films.
This movie has the best action, the best cinematography and the highest stakes of all four movies.
If you haven't seen it yet, please do.
It's action movie perfection.
Scream VI (2023)
A bit overhyped..
I love this franchise. Let me start there.
When I initially saw Scream 5 in theaters, I didn't like it. I appreciated the effort but I was let down. Upon viewing it at home a few more times, it started to grow on me. While I still rank it on the lower side, I think it's a better overall movie than Scream 6.
I was highly anticipating Scream 6 because I wanted to go into it and and wash away the initial theater experience that was the 5th movie. Unfortunately, that didn't happen. While we certainly do have a menacing Ghostface roaming the streets of NY, it still feels like the setting was completely underutilized. They had a chance to go completely crazy with this and for some reason, they held back.
Characters had way too much plot armor in this entry. When you thought someone was dead, nope, they're still alive. This movie will make you ask yourself, multiple times: "How are they still breathing?" When you do that, you're taking away the impact of the killer and while this Ghostface certainly looks menacing, he's a failure at getting the job done.
There are some really great sequences in this film, though. The opening kill is something that we've never seen before and is truly the best part of this movie. Unfortunately, paper thin characters (the underwhelming return of Kirby) nonsensical writing and a completely silly third act, keeps this from being as great as it could have been.
I look forward to Scream 7. Hopefully, they can end this new trilogy well.
Jeepers Creepers: Reborn (2022)
The reviews are all correct...
There's nothing redeeming about this movie.
At all.
Everyone involved should be ashamed to have put this disaster out. The acting is so bad that you'll find yourself wondering why and how you decided to invest your valuable time by turning this on. It's a gigantic cringe-fest every time someone opens their mouth and speaks.
The Creeper isn't scary in this entry.
He was terrifying in the first two films but they make him out to be a joke in one. He's almost like, a guy who you run into at a horror convention, in cosplay, dressed as The Creeper. You know who he's supposed to be but, in the end, it's not really him.
Also, I hate bad CGI. However, for straight to video B-movie horror, I can let a little bit slide. Unfortunately, its completely impossible to do that with this film because 80% of the films settings and backgrounds are on a green screen. It's laughable, honestly. There is a shot in the beginning of the movie where a character pulls over to the side of the road and gets out of the car running and It looks as if she's running directly into the LAND OF CGI.
Avoid this film. Even if it's free.
Puss in Boots: The Last Wish (2022)
I usually never give out 10's....
However, this movie is truly perfect.
Not only is this the better of the Puss In Boots films but it's honestly one of the best animated films that I've ever seen. The movie has incredible voice acting, hilarious moments, tremendous action sequences and beautiful animation. If you're a fan of the unique art style of "Into the Spider-verse", you'll truly appreciate the style that this film throws out at times.
It also has so much heart. This movie pulls on the heart-strings as much as any animated film could possibly do.
Also, Wagner Moura's character is done so well that you'll leave the film with a lasting impression of him.
If you're on the fence about seeing this movie, please watch it. For me, this film came completely out of nowhere and it honestly shocked me how well it was done.
Great stuff!
Scare Package II: Rad Chad's Revenge (2022)
What happened?...
I really loved the first "Scare Package". I thought it was a very unique take on the comedy horror anthology genre.
That being said, this sequel does not have the same charm as the first. While there are sparks of enjoyable moments and references to classic slasher horror films, most of the film is cluttered with complete nonsense. The stories, themselves are rather weak and the connecting SAW story, also, leaves a lot to be desired. Also, we don't need woke moments thrown in for absolutely no other reason than to virtue signal.
If you're a big fan of the first, I'd skip this one to avoid tarnishing the memory of the far superior original.
