Weeds (2005)
What happened to the fun characters?
OK. The first couple of seasons were enjoyable. Actually I give them 8. Then it started to go downhill. Season 3: 7. Season 4: 5. Season 5: 2 It ended with: 1. The total impression is: Don't spend time on this. You will only get depressed or sad.
The reason to this down-climbing is not just the fact that the characters did not develop in a "natural way", with a happy ending, so to say. The overall reason is that it started out as a plausible plot, with interesting characters, but became so totally out, way out, that you might as well watch "The hitchikers way to the galaxy" instead.
Celia, one of the main characters, funny, just disappeared in season 4 or 5. They just wrote her out, without any explain. Nancy, the main character, started as a person you could believe in, and ended up as a person so far out, that even daily dozes of crack cocaine can't bring you so far out. And she mainly drank caffeine!
The best performing actor in the series was Alanis Morisette(the others were not bad, don't misunderstand me, but Alanis' part was plausible and she vanished before it all went wrong), and she was there for just an hour.
Midsomer Murders: Death in the Slow Lane (2011)
Without Nettles - the whole thing can be put to rest!
Midsomer Murders is John Nettles. Or at least 50 % of it. Replacing Nettles is like replacing Bergerac with...some other guy. It makes no sense. This changing is obviously just to milk the cow dry. "There still is some more milk and we need to get it out". Well. Don't. Put Midsomer to sleep! It's been around for 15 years. I can see why Nettles give it up. I just can't see why the producers don't see it. I hope we will see Nettles again, after a long and deserved vacation. He's been an attraction on TV all the way back from "A family at war". Now, that said, I still vote a "4". Almost all the things that we know from the "old" series is still there. but I cannot put the finger on exact what is missing, except from Nettles. It's more boring. Maybe it have been boring all the way back, that Nettles have been carrying the show on his own shoulders?
A Family at War (1970)
A soap-opera, but an excellent one
I was a small boy watching this series now and then in the seventies. But I have always remembered it to be a fine series. I have seen it again the last month. I did remember some of the characters, Peter and Sheila especially, and Mr and Mrs Ashton, off course, and it was fun to see John Nettles as a very young man. But what really hit me, right in the stomach, so to say, was the quality. After all these years there is almost no TV- production that can compete with this astonishing - amazing superb quality. The actors, the producers, everything. What is sad, is that TV in general becomes some poor compared to such high-quality as "A family at war". There are exceptions, like "Brideshead revisited", but I feel, after being a member of the Ashton family for a month, that I need a long break from TV. It just isn't worth it.
Furry Vengeance (2010)
What is the matter with you, folks?
I have just read the first reviews, and I have to say I am amazed how stupid some people seem to be. One person say her kids gave it 10, but she gave a 6 on IMDb, based on an average between her children's review and her review. So she thinks the movie sucks, her children love it and based on that the total score on IMDb is 6?? I guess a lot of others have come to the same conclusion, since the actual average on this movie is 3. So they tone their children's voice down. And I guess there actually are adults watching this movie, giving it a low score.
This is a children's movie!!! Children love it. My kids love it. All kids love it. For grown ups this movie is boring. It sucks. We have seen it before. 60, 50, 40, 30, 20, 10 years ago. This is the same movie as all the other movies using slapstick humor. This is as good as "Home alone". It's just that it is a new movie, with settings that are totally 2009, with cars from 2009, with hairstyle from 2009, with clothes from 2009. And the children recognize that, they laugh and it is fun.
So. Based on the method behind the score that my fellow reviewer gave - an average from an adult and a kid - with the same method "The Godfather" and "House M.D." will also get a score of like 3. My 8 year old daughter give House M.D. a zero. No points at all. And she hates The godfather. Shell I count her voice on IMDb? No!
