Aftersun (2022)
At first you don't understand why you're watching it, and then you don't turn it off on the credits
The first 20-30 minutes you just watch the rest of the father and daughter and do not understand at all why you need someone's family video, which may be of interest only to members of their family.
But then you start to notice the details that indicate the direction of their mood. And then it started. You get more and more worried about every action in the scene, every look.
By the 70th minute, Calum is increasingly immersed in darkness. His clothes get darker and he gets darker in the frame. And then the moment comes when he completely goes into the black void. On a dark dark night, in black black clothes, he ran into the black sea and disappeared... Suicide? Everything was leading up to this. No need! Come back!
At this time, his 11-year-old daughter Sophie spends time with older acquaintances who are filled with alcohol. And then she was alone at night. Something is definitely going to happen now. Only not this!
A hotel worker opens the door to Sophie's room, and there is Calum sleeping on the bed. Fuh! Both of you are fine. If not for his daughter, Calum would definitely not have returned. His love for her is stronger than himself.
But! When they got home and parted at the end, he definitely killed himself. I am sure about that. It's shown. You can see it, but you refuse to believe it. That's what you think about all the time that the end credits are running.
Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981)
December 2022. I watched it for the first time. Didn't like it at all
I didn't see the word "Comedy" in the list of genres, but everything is done here as if it should be exactly that, only they forgot about jokes.
Caricature characters, villains in particular, do not allow us to believe in their real danger and power. Against this background, the protagonists become even more helpless.
A stupid scene at a lecture where a girl has "LOVE YOU" written on her eyelids. In the same place, love is already visible on the faces, why this pronunciation, and even with an excessive reaction of Indy?
Awkward scenes of fights, as if drunk people argued who had the most powerful punch. I do not believe that at that time and with such a budget it was impossible to do better.
It is unclear where the sounds in the tomb came from when skeletons fell on Marion. What for? Why?
Marion is an object passing from hand to hand. The damsel in distress? Bruh... It looks bad here.
Indy: knocks out a man in plain sight.
The crowd behind: we are the great blind.
I: -_-
At the same time, despite everyone's love for this franchise, I had low expectations and the film even exceeded them for the worse.
Either the film has aged very badly and is as outdated as possible, or specifically Steven Spielberg is really not my director (I didn't like any of his films at all).
The Greatest Beer Run Ever (2022)
If you know, you know
This movie is not a masterpiece, but when you live in a region of our planet where what is shown is very relevant, you forget about everything else. The only thing you can do is to draw parallels with the outside world.
I know that this is a film adaptation of a specific story in a specific place and with specific people. And yet this is more than just a story about a man who rushed to deliver beer to friends.
With all my heart I wish this film to lose at least the slightest relevance very soon. But to my deepest regret, what is hidden inside the film will be our reality forever. So the film will be relevant forever.
Peace.
Bullet Train (2022)
Short story long
The screen adaptation of the tabletop mafia, but the mafia kills each other, and civilians don't care, as long as there is no noise.
There is beer, and there is a beer-like product. Just like here, this is a movie product. Ingredients: Tarantino's briefcase (does not contain McGuffin), the relationships of enemies from Guy Ritchie (modified: one left, the other came and also left), movie-like gags from TikTok (cannot be counted), contains GMOs (VFX of course).
Greetings to The Godfather from oranges!
Long story short, just put the case in the bag and get off at the first stop.
P. S. THOMAS THE TANK ENGINE BASS BOOSTED THEME.
Blood Diamond (2006)
Blood price. Blood emotionless.
The story is about three people who are looking for their diamond to the last. And one of them lived his screen life without a single hint of giving up the bad for the good.
Archer, until his death, does not give up the idea of scamming everyone and taking 100% of the diamond. The character does not endear himself. He is about to go on the path of truth and abandon his goal for the sake of those who happened to be nearby. But this is not happening. He dies and thus finds redemption for everything. Here's his blood diamond. Blood price.
Solomon, in search of his son, forgets to turn on his head, logic, strategy. Shouting son's name in the night, following three cars crowded with armed children who are killing everyone randomly? Yes, it's easy! After that, bullets don't hit them just because it doesn't fit into the script. But stupidity fits in without problems. He saves his son and the whole family. But they destroy a whole camp of children. Yes, they are all murderers... Here's his blood diamond. Blood price.
Maddy seems to be the smartest and nicest character, because she has such a noble goal - to tell the whole world about the horror that diamond sellers gain from, so that it all ends. And she falls in love with Archer just like a teenage girl falls in love with a bad guy from high school. She loses her love, but gets an article that goes around the world. Here's her blood diamond. Blood price.
The story is shown in such a way that there is no reason (or maybe time?) to get attached to the characters. Even to Solomon, who has the most cinematic and closest goal to the viewer. As a result, after viewing, there were no bloody emotions left.
What's Eating Gilbert Grape (1993)
Momma and Arnie don't really exist
So what's Eating Gilbert?
Momma
The burden of the past, which he cannot forget in any way. The death of his father, who took his mother with him, leaving only her physical shell. A small outdated town that he loves in the collective image of an adult woman Betty, but wants a new one. Betty, as an image of the city, kills her residents in the person of her husband. Or not? All this burden is shown as his mother, with whom he finally said goodbye. Forgave and let go of the past.
Arnie
These are his weirdness, because of which he has complexes. Which he can't handle, can't always keep track of. Which he sometimes even hates. Which no one can understand. Here comes Becky, who not only accepts his weirdness, but also handles them very skillfully. So Gilbert accepts Arnie, that is, his weirdness.
When these meanings came into my head, this movie became even better and deeper. But it looks very good without it.
The Basketball Diaries (1995)
I want to return the time I spent
The story is about stupid teenagers who could have become great basketball players, but fell to the very bottom of life.
Incredibly boring time spent. Heroes have no goals, all they do is rob and show violence. Although no, they still have a goal - to find something for self-destruction. It is completely uninteresting to follow this, not only is there no sympathy for the main character, he generally repels, like his friends. It's as if it's a film adaptation of the instruction on the loss of your life or public announcement, and not a movie that should keep the viewer and evoke positive emotions.
Storytelling is built in such a way that everything happens quickly and without a visible end. You just don't understand why you're watching this.
Also, the focus of the camera was lost somewhere.
My sofa hypothesis, how to fix it all:
1. Build a story around treatment, overcoming addiction. So the viewer will immediately wait for either a cure or a breakdown. Interest to finish watching
2. Use diary entries as background
3. Mix 1 and 2 points in parallel editing
4. Think about not doing this project.
