Monster (2022– )

A sensitively told harrowing story

Unbelievable acting and sensitive direction delivers an incredible account of this story. Deeply sad. Respectful. None of the gratuitous horror you see in equivalent programmes.

Interestingly, this story cultivates compassion where you didn't think you'd find it. A breadth of plot you won't have realised existed surrounding these circumstances.

Hard to recommend as you find with anything like this. Can I say it's a must see?! How can anyone recommend sharing this for entertainment sake when it's a true story. And yet if you are a fan of true crime, this is a must see to try and understand the story behind the headlines of the time.

The Weekend Away (2022)

Started ok, got worse along the way

A fairly typical missing person drama. Decent acting and not knowing kept me interested for the first hour. But as the movie progressed, the story became laughable and the acting deteriorated in line with the poor script.

Winter's Bone (2010)

Interesting but slow character study

The cast do an incredible job portraying a variety of characters struggling with life.

But this isn't a thriller; it's not gripping or suspense filled.

Film noir indeed. Bleak, depressing, quiet. But that's what the story is. Quality acting, simple sad plot.

Fear of Rain (2021)

13 minutes in and I'm already done.

This movie is so cringey I feel uncomfortable watching it. Teenage girl returns from hospital to her bedroom still wrecked from her previous psychotic episode. Her parents haven't even cleaned her bloody fingernails from the wall. Their naff way of showing the audience what happened.

She doesn't want to take her meds because they prevent her from being able to paint.

Her first day back at school and she clumsily spills her pills all over the hall floor. Eye roll.

I really like Harry Connick Jr. But I'm literally cringing in every scene from the way the story is being told.
