Emily in Paris (2020)
Insulting show
For context, I m French, born and raised in paris, I now work in advertising in Chicago... so yeah...
There's so much wrong with this show. It somehow manages to disrespect French culture, American culture, the luxury industry and the the marketing industry...
Honestly there could've been a fun show somewhere about the expat life and adjusting to life on a new continent.
But instead we have this...
Stupid stereotypes
Stupid outfits
Stupid love stories
Stupid work life portrayal
How that show was Emmy nominated I will never understand...
It's like no one bothered doing any research on what the show was gonna touch on.
Rebel Moon - Part One: A Child of Fire (2023)
Reddit has better fan fiction that this...
This project was pitched to Lucasfilm by Zack Snyder.... and Kathleen Kennedy finally got something right.
This movie is a mess... It is plagiarism more than fan fiction honestly... Wild that they would plagiarize some of the best movies and character made and end up with something I would only re-wacth as part of a drinking game...
What s odd is that i feel like this couldve "kinda" work as a TV show... I mean 2 3hish movies couldve been made to a 13 episodes show... Given that half of part one is fetch/recruitment it would have allowed to focus on each character with more dedicated time spent on each of them.
Instead we get this.... A movie that rips from amazing films but somehow end up looking a like a it was put together by 6 dudes on reddit fan fiction section who were ended $150M.
Catwoman: Hunted (2022)
Cringe
Listen.... I'm a huge fan of the DCAU.... And I couldn't make it last 30mins in this movie.
It's just really cringe... the dialogue, the story, the animation.... And what's up with the music??? Seriously... Why are we re getting smooth jazz for a car chase????
I have no idea who this movie is supposed to be for but it sure wasn't made for DC fans.
The Tinder Swindler (2022)
Apparently common sense is scarce
Listen... I always feel bad for people that get scammed but man... some of these women... they kinda got lucky all he did was stealing "their" money
The very first woman decides to "go on a trip to Bulgaria" with a guy she met for coffee... that day... for the first time...
That could've gone SO much worse... and no it's not "hindsight is 20/20". Pretty sure everybody's parents told their kids at some point not to get in a car with strangers... well how's that any different really? Oh he's rich? I guess we can forego logic then...
I honestly was worried that she would end up as a sex slave or dead in a ditch with her kidneys missing
Hate to be that guy but these girls got lucky... it could've been so much worse.
Basic Versus Baller: Travel at Any Cost (2018)
I really wanted to like that show
I actually really liked the premise of the show. Exploring travel with very different budget and showing that you don't need a crazy budget to make it work....
I just really don't like the execution. I wish they would focus more on unique experiences of the cities they go to. 5 star hotel chains... meh... it's not really a unique experience... bubble bath with Champaign... yawn... chilling by the hotel pool... yawn... those are things you can pretty much do anywhere in the world... so it s very uninteresting.
So many cities have great culture and sightseeing and I feel like it's not explored enough.
Injustice (2021)
This should have never been a movie
Listen... I love that source material... it's in my opinion one of the best DC limited series and I am glad that there was an attempt to adapt it.
But it just doesn't work as a movie... there's just way too much content in the story to adapt into a movie and do it justice.
When I heard it was being adapted I assumed it would be as either a TV show or a multiple part movie just like the comics had "year 1", "year 2" and so on. I was very skeptic when I saw the trailer and that it was made into a movie.
As expected it forced the producer and director to cut 90% of the content... which is a shame because you end up with a movie that is somehow way to fast paced but also feels empty.
It was just the wrong format to do the injustice storyline justice.
The Lion King (2019)
Lost its soul
Ironically the amazing visuals (and they truly are amazing) hurts the overall movie and removes its soul
Photorealistic animals just don't convey emotions and humor the way cartoons do... and there really isn't a way around it...
The worst is when the animals talk... it s just weird with photorealistic animals. Watch the trailer again. It is about 2 mins long but shows only 5 seconds of a character talking. The rest is narration over visuals. Because even the editing team knew it just looks weird when the characters/animals speak in this movie.
Mulan (2020)
Recipe for disappointment
At its core the biggest problem with this movie is that it tries to please too many groups and ended up pleasing no one...
Mulan tries to be a Disney movie, a Chinese epic, a war movie, an American blockbuster, a war movie, a pg13 movie....
I love chocolate, I love guac, I love wine... individually these are great... but now go ahead and blend all 3 together.... Ugh... that's this movie. Too many ingredients that just don't mix well together...
Huge in France (2019)
Underrated show
It's really ironic that a show about a comedian struggling to move to another country (where humor is just not the same) is also struggling to please a foreign audience.
Yeah it isn't a Kevin Hart, 20 obvious per minute show... it's more subtle, it's darker and tackles so more real challenges and problems.
I don't get why it gets so much hate.
Batman and Harley Quinn (2017)
A disgrace
Fart jokes... yeah fart jokes...
This movie is a disgrace to the original series... at time you would swear you're watching a family guy cutaway scene
The movie doesn't know hat it wants to be so we re stuck with a mess with no clear identity that fails at being faithful to the original or create its own style.
It's a rare miss for DCAU and because most of the work has been solid it really disappoints.
Star Wars: Episode VIII - The Last Jedi (2017)
So much wrong
1. Did Rian Johnson ever watch the original trilogy?
2. Luke deserved better
3. Rey went from a cool new character to the least relatable character of all time. Seriously she's just amazing at everything just because the plot demands it.
4. Remove Finn and Rose, movie will remain about identical...
5. See ya Snoke, we hardly knew ye...
6. Leia turns into Mary Poppins....
7. Seriously? Why Hordo or whatever her name is... Star Wars introduces too many character they don't spend time developing. Just stick ackbar there...
Star Wars: Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker (2019)
There's lazy, there's stupid... and then there's this movie
So I was no fan of "the last Jedi" but at least it tried... and I honestly think it's ok to try and fail... I'll give a pass for someone that really took a shot but just missed...
But this movie doesn't even try...
This is just a lazy mess that reads more like fan fiction than a Hollywood production.
You can only rely on convenience so many times for story writing. Well this movie relies almost exclusively on convenience and Nonsense to drive the story forward.
I feel like Rian Johnson didn't understand Star Wars and it's character... but JJ straight up thinks we're dumb and will applaud any cliché and Star Wars Easter egg. This movie is just lazy and it s a sad way to end what I thought could be a promising new trilogy after seen TFA.
Alex Rider (2020)
Pleasant surprise
After that dumpster fire that was stormbreaker I pretty much gave up on this franchise ever getting a faithful adaptation.
I was very pleased with this show which stays truthful to the book and unfold more like a Jason Bourne TV show than a James Bond or Kingsman TV show.
Actors do a good job and for all intended purpose it seems like the screenwriters actually understood the material.
Excited to see more.
And yes it is a slow burn. Most books are.
