Bandidos (2024)
Really entertaining, don't let the bad reviews fool you.
It continues to baffle me how people will watch a show dubbed into their own language (mostly native english speakers will do that), and then complain about the "poor" acting. Are you really that dense?
Also, it continues to amaze me how little apprecation people have for other peoples' cultures. Let me break it down for you: Different countries different idiomas, different ways of speaking and acting, and different jokes.
I thought this series was absolutely lovely, it was never meant to be a serious crime series, it was purely meant as comedy. Kind of like many, mány north-american treasure hunting story tries to attain.
The acting was more than fine, if you can just try to get rid of your culural bias for once. You might learn someting and actually be entertained by this little gem. (No pun intended;)
Also: absolutely loved the musical score, many south- and meso-american classics, well done!
The scenery was ofcourse very appealing to look at , I mean, who doesn't like the Caribean??
Except for some negative nancy's who will always give bad reviews to ANY foreign series.
Casa Coco (2022)
Awful
This has got to be one of the worst dutch movies I have ever seen. Loes Luca obviously did a decent job and so did Gérard Cox but seriously, rhe rest of the so called actors were unbearable to watch. What a complete and utter disappointment. Katja Schuurman had zero expression in her botoxed face, zero acting skills, it was a total cringe fest to hear her talk and try to act.
My goodness I dont even have words for this colossal failure of a movie, it was a cliché ridden, boring as hell disaster.
The whole Rotterdam angle was interesting because most movies are situated in Amsterdam but the characters couldnt get any more bland if they tried.
And for the love of god: please dont ever allow Schuurman to "act" again, my brain is bleeding over this drivel.
House of the Dragon: Second of His Name (2022)
The epic demise of rhe Crabfeeder
....was nothing short of amaaaazing!
Daemon, albeit the "vilain" of the story is such a joy to look at. Rooting for him all the way.
I was literally sitting at the edge of my seat hoping they wouldn't pull a Ned on him. :)
And the dragons.... wow!! The cgi has improved so much over the past few years, and watching this in 4K really adds to the experience.
And the foreseeing with the white stack.. very cleverly done.
I am loving every second of it.
I was sceptic after the disastrous ending of GoT, but so very happy now and glued to my chair the entire episode while at the end of GoT I was taking a knitting course online while watching it. ;)
If they maintain this level I might feel inclined to watch GoT again.
What a way to redeem themselves. Well done!!
Stranger Things: Chapter Nine: The Piggyback (2022)
Somewhat bland
It was a decent finale, with some flaws. Eddie's death wasn't heroic, it was unnecessary. Will's acting was just terrible, bland and really cringe. I suppose he was good enough as a child actor but now he just seems autistic with a ridiculous haircut. No emotional range.
And why did Vecna suddenly beat the crap out of El? She only regained her strength when she heard she was loved..?
And bringing Max back from the dead doesn't make any sense, Max didn't need plot armour if Vecna clearly already won.
And how were the others strangled for over 30 minutes?
It's just little things but it annoyed me.
Brazen (2022)
Pathetic
No words to describe this collosal failure of a movie.
I can tell you one thing though: losing a sibling does not look like that.
Alyssa Milano should have never have lend herself for this poor script.
She used to be a good actress but I guess the Botox robbed her of that skill.
It was like looking at an episode of the Bold an the Beautiful.
The Great Gatsby (2013)
Unbearable to watch.
As of 40 minutes I was longing for the end and paused to write this review
The musical score is just God awful. The audio is so obviously a montage, the whole thing feels contrived in every sense of the word.
The only reason I will finish is because of DiCaprio whos acting skills I really appreciate.
Indian Matchmaking (2020)
Pradhyuman is gay
I only had to watch him for about two minutes to get my phone just to leave this comment.
But then, his closet is big enough to comfortably stay in. :)
And yes, being gay is a huge taboo in India.
The Serpent (2021)
Entertaining except for the annoying accents and flawed dialogue
I truly don't understand that in the year 2021, you would not cast a Dutch actor to play the dutch part (Michiel Huisman for instance) or a Belgian actor to play the belgian part, etc etc.
He didn't even pronounce his own name right, Knippenburggg. Only the ambassador ( a dutch actor) got it right.
This is typical BBC anti-continental arrogance in my opinion.
It felt like watching Allô Allô at some point.
And you know: dutch people speak dutch amongst themselves, and so do the french. The dialogues between several people made no sense because of this.
Also: a german/dutch couple would never converse in english, it would be either dutch or german. And because of the similarities in their native language they would be fully able to pronounce each other's names right.
And: a Belgian would never, consistently call a dutch person a "cloggy". This is british slang for dutch people and i wonder if they would use it multiple times in single conversation addressing a dutch colleague, let a alone a fellow diplomat.
And what about those crazy time jumps. We counted about 20 per episode, and the train station letters and according sound were quite unnecessary every other three minutes. It really didn't contribute to the story. In fact, it was highly distracting and even laughable at some point.
Flashbacks and flashforwards are supposed to draw you in, not have you burst out in laughter because of the overkill. It creates a total disconnect with the characters arcs.
Overall: the story was interesting but those incessant time jumps, the butchered dutch and English dialogue where it was supposed to be in either dutch or french made me long for the end.
It could've ranked much higher if they had sorted this out. Come on bbc, you can do better!
Kin (2018)
Glad I watched despite the low ranking.
This movie is a solid 8 but I'll give it a nine because it really doesn't deserve all the negativity.
Are people so numbed down by high paced sci-fi with spectacular special effects that they can recognize a good movie anymore?
I must admit that I wasn't really paying attention either during the first 10 minutes but as soon James Franco came on screen I was sold. His performance never seizes to amaze me.
People complaining about cliches... they entirely missed the point.
This is a quaint little film in the vast ( mostly cheesy) sci fi realm and I was happy to have seen it on an average Monday night when I was expecting nothing.
It was a good set up for the sequel.
Firefly Lane (2021)
Mismatch of actresses, reducing it to yet more Hollywood drivel.
So, these two middle-aged women are supposed to be of the same age?
The botoxed, shiny, cheek fillered (someone please fire that make-up artist) face of Heigl is so distracting and off-putting.
It just annoys me till no end that she is supposed to portray the "beautiful" one and the other actress the wrinkly ugly duckling (with glasses of course). *Yawn*
It's shallow and really takes away from what could potentially have been a good story.
Also: a bad childhood is never an excuse to be a completely unaware, emotionally underdeveloped, sad excuse for an adult.
Does the character of Heigl get away with all that poor behavior because of her supposed beauty and success?
People raving over this drivel is exactly what's wrong with society.
It's a sad state of affairs.
Bob Lazar: Area 51 & Flying Saucers (2018)
It's about the story, not the direction obviously.
I'm giving this a ten just to counter all the negative reviews. People really shouldn't be getting all elitist because the direction was poor or because of some grudge against the director. Who cares? The fact that thsi information is on Netflix is HUGE, and it will (hopefully and probably) lead to full disclosure within our generation.
The Midnight Sky (2020)
So what was the apocalypse??
Totally unsatisfying movie, left me feeling completely underwhelmed.
One more thing: when Clooney emerged from the below zero artic water, he didn't as much as flinch nor gasp for breath. He even stayed in the water for another comfortable 10 seconds. Just wow.
Master of None (2015)
Not recommend for european viewers
It's somewhat entertaining until you can't block the typical american, high volume, over the top screeching, high in treble, nasal sound of voice of the main character anymore. It's so off-putting, inspite of the comedy.
Can these people ever learn to sound less juvenile?
Selena: The Series (2020)
Missed opportunity..
...to create something amazing! I really was enthusiastic for the first two episodes and wish they had expanded more on the childhood years of playing at weddings. The child actress was amazing, she was bubbly and believable.
The teenage Selena (played by an adult?) however was 4 shades paler and four times less bubbly.
Apart from the obvious whitewashing, an adult replacing a child actress to portray a teenager in less than two episodes, it just doesn't make any sense.
This actress had but 1 facial expression, she looked more like a caricature of a teenager.
Other than that: the fact that Mexican-Americans don't speak Spanish amongst themselves is unlikely and therefore just irritating to watch.
They should've stuck with Selena the movie.
This looked like a b-movie with endless sequels (episodes), the episodes dragged on and on.
I'll give it a 4 for effort because it did keep me somewhat entertained for the first two hours.
Succession: This Is Not for Tears (2019)
The Judas' kiss
As soon as Kendall gave that kiss I should've known but was still completely taken by surprise.
What a killer!!
Down to Earth with Zac Efron (2020)
God awful
I don't even know where to start. The terrible hosts, the superficial wows uttered at nearly everything they see, eat or drink, it's exactly the reason why Europeans hate Americans.
How is that co host even a "food and health expert"???
What a tool, he lacks any credibility. And Efron as his willing side kick makes for the ultimate cringe fest.
Anyone with a three digit IQ should avoid this garbage at all cost.
Huge Netflix FAIL.
The Umbrella Academy (2019)
Season 2 gave me goosebumps.
First review ever on IMDb just to express my love for these series.
What a ride! I really enjoyed season 1 but season 2 is truly spectacular. I loved all the characters, even Diego became more likeable. (Well maybe that's because of his hot new hair, and NO HE DOESN'T LOOK LIKE ANTONIO BANDERAS ONE BIT, that's actually an insult;)
The cleverness of the humor, the cinematography, the soundtrack, the different character's arcs, it was all brilliant and I can't wait for season 3!
And their father is what now??
Btw it gave me and my daughter a good chuckle to see GoT's Dickon make a comeback as Luther:)
This series is my absolute favorite now on Netflix together with the sublime German series "Dark".
