The Great Race (1965)
Blake Edwards+ Henry Mancini= MASTERPIECE
This movie is OBVIOUSLY an 11, on a scale of 1-10. Kids, there's a reason it earned 14 nominations, and an Oscar win. It's just that good. Technically, it's perfect. Cinematography is great, naturally it was big budget. Sets and props, unbeatable! Any Dad in his right mind would carry his teenage daughter in a HANNIBAL TWIN-8! I would take my wife to a five-star restaurant tomorrow, in a LESLIE SPECIAL. Costumes were outright spot on, all the way around. Music, sound.... very well done, great score. Editing, timing, all perfect. Storyline, and plot very entertaining. My WHOLE FAMILY loves this movie. Older grandparents will need to explain adult humor to the under 40 crowd, it's got witty banter, the biggest pie fight anyone's ever seen, almost non-stop laughs, and action! Lemmon, Curtis, Miss Wood, Falk, Wynn, the ENTIRE cast was perfectly matched and directed. Each part was a showcase of excellent acting. Quit whining about the little details, and enjoy the movie.
Send Me No Flowers (1964)
Entertainment. Capital E.
I rate it 9 out of 10. It's just simply great entertainment. Quality film ALL AROUND. I watch it yearly, because it's hilarious! Don't overthink it, just sit back and enjoy it. Young people under 50, if you don't get it, then get your parents to light up a cigarette, get a good stiff drink and explain good adult humor to you! Doris & Rock, are perfectly cast for the lead roles, with an unparalleled veritable football team of top- bill supporting actors/actresses. Paul Lynde is unbeatable with his usual wit. Randall, and Walker both turn in great performances. It's a fun film, with a good solid ending. My wife and I loved it.
Invitation to a Murder (2023)
Worth the viewing and time. Entertaining.
I rate this very obvious, grade A, mid-budget film 7.5-8, out of 10. In general, it's a good film. Come on, kids. This isn't hard to see. The sound, dubbing, sets, and props are all well done. Little to no computer enhancement. Wardrobe, hair, make-up are passible for the 1930's, as are the antique period cars and boat. Grade B, Low or mid- budget films never come close to reaching this basic quality level of production. Stephen Shimek does a good job directing, Mischa Barton adequately delivers in the lead role. All supporting cast give a solid performance. The movie is an homage to Agatha Christie mysteries, and it basically delivers that homage. It's a good, realistic starter mystery for over- 17 teens and young adults. Mature parents should be able to explain the plot, and motives. It's realistic, and better than 65% of the crap being produced in hollywood right now. Don't pick it apart, it's a mid-budget film.
