The Boys (2019)
Antidote to cookie-cutter marvel and co. movies.
This year had been horrible for the entertainment industry and the world in general. The boys is a breath of fresh air and honestly, I enjoyed season 1. It has to be the best season of the show. Season two however could use a little work. Character development stagnated after season one but it was good nonetheless. Overall, it's an amazing show and exactly what the superhero genre needs right now.
After We Collided (2020)
Still cringe
The first film was bad, that's just a fact, the trailer for the second one is absolutely horrendous. How is this a franchise? And there target demograph for this film makes it all the more disturbing. Young girls are gonna see this and think it's okay to be in a clearly toxic and abuse relationship as long as the guys handsome and a complete tool, it'll be fine. The first one was bad and I'm pretty damn sure the second one won't change my thoughts.
Mulan (1998)
A reminder good movies still exist.
When I saw Mulan 2020, I felt an emotional disconnection from Disney. All of their 'remakes' are complete BS and it just made so frustrated and depressed that people value monetary gains over telling good stories. So i decided to watch the original Mulan, and i instantly felt better. Its an amazing movie demonstrating good values like hard work, friendship, loyalty and unity. I enjoyed this film and it genuinely made me miss the old disney, the disney that was focused on telling good, moral and complex stories tht leave you wanting more. How i wish modern filmmakers could remind themselves what true storytelling is.
Birds of Prey and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn (2020)
An insult to comic book fans.
When i saw the trailer, i was pessimistically intrigued. I've read many, and i mean, many birds of prey comics, so when i saw this, i was considering being a marvel fan. This movie has a terrible plot, laughable writing and unlikable characters. its an unwanted suicide squad sequel. You think suicide squad was bad, well let me tell ya, its got nothing on this movie. Dont waste your time on this, its not worth it.
Mulan (2020)
This makes me like Captain Marvel.
200 million dollars. Let that sink in people. 200 million dollars. WTF did I just watch? The plot is nothing short of pathetic, the actress is soooo bad and don't get me started on the script. In the original, Mulan was a flawed character who wasn't better than her male counterparts but actually a bit worse than them. But she worked hard and used intelligence, will and grit to be the best. This movie however shows no moral values whatsoever. Its almost as if disney thought that a woman fighting amongst men is unrealistic, so they gave her superpowers. i dont care what you call it, its basically just superpowers. And why was the witch even added? To show two strong female characters? WHAT?! This is just another sad graduate of disney's school of 'Girls who are awesome because they're girls'. It happened with Starwars, it happened with Captain Marvel, so you best believe this isnt the end. Its time we get angry with the entertainment industry for replacing originality and good story telling with politics and the desire to make money instead of focusing on good, authentic and moral writing. It doesnt help that the target audience is young people, it just doesnt. It sends a wrong message, basically saying that you dont to work hard cause you were born awesome. Trust me, that's not how life works. This movie is makes Captain Marvel look like a masterpiece.
Captain Marvel (2019)
Not only 'white dudes' dislike this movie.
This movie did no justice whatsoever to the first female movie in the MCU. It was barely subtle with it's message about female empowerment to a point where it just made women look like they're desperate for attention. She has no character, the script and writing is extremely cringe-worthy and laughable, but not in an intended kind of way, and Brie Larson never even earned her spot in the MCU unlike Scarlett Johansson. She just expects us to like the film as if the world is indebted to her for existing. I'm a woman and I DID NOT LIKE THIS FILM.
