Grand Cayman: Secrets in Paradise (2024)
Fun! Decent first season!
I tuned in for Armie Hammer's ex wife. Well, she's a real beyotch and is so uninteresting. I stayed for the locals and the actual friend group. I love the scenery. Totally makes me want to go to Grand Cayman. There was plenty of drama and I liked the majority of the cast. I definitely hope there is a season 2 because I will watch. I doubt that Elizabeth will come back. Good news is- she's not needed. The show makes me want to live that island life. It's a fun peek inside of a group of friends. If I ever go to Grand Cayman I definitely WON'T be checking out that Bird Bakery or whatever it's called. All in all- it's a fun reality show that has potential.
American Horror Story: The Auteur (2024)
Kim slayed
The series always starts out good then quickly begins to suck. They really need better writers who can intelligently write a coherent series. I watched because I love Kim and Emma. They were both great. I loved the concept. Loved the opening credits. I loved the costumes. It definitely didn't need to be two parts. By the time the second part aired I kinda forgot what had happened already bc the writing was so wack-a-do. I always begin the show with great anticipation, and then about episode 3, I begin to lose interest. Thank god for Kim K! I love her and she proved to be great in this and also very funny. Better bring it next season or I probably won't watch.
Licorice Pizza (2021)
Snooze fest 2021
OMG is this movie long and boring. I really wanted to like it. I liked the 70s vibe and thought the actors were great. It was cool to see the Haim family and to learn that the character of Gary was Phillip Seymour Hoffman's son. He did a great job. Problem was the story. It started off okay but lost steam when the waterbed business story came about. The film picked back up with the introduction of Sean Penn and Bradley Cooper, but even they could not keep me intrigued. I watched this movie over two days, kind of FORCING myself to keep watching. Ultimately it was long and boring. I would not recommend...unless you are trying to put yourself to sleep.
Happiness for Beginners (2023)
Sweet, calm romcom
I nothing about this movie before watching. I just randomly chose it on a Friday night when my husband was busy and I wanted to watch something "girly." I typically like stuff that Ellie Kemper does so I gave it a shot. It's a sweet, love story that is pretty straightforward. There are funny parts and great scenery. I didn't know Luke because I didn't watch Yellowstone and wasn't familiar with him, but I absolutely fell in love with him. The rest of the cast I felt was perfectly cast. They were there for comic relief and to move the story along. I wasn't aware that it was a book and probably won't read it but can see that it would be an enjoyable read. All in all it was an enjoyable, sweet movie and bonus that it was an hour and forty-five minutes ! I love a quick flick.
Knock at the Cabin (2023)
Snooze fest
I read Paul Trembly's book The Cabin at the End of the World and it was decent. I actually expected it to be much better, but I enjoyed it for the most part. I was excited for the movie, because despite a few bombs, I'm still an M. Knight fan. The first half of the movie I found to be incredibly boring. To be honest, I almost turned it off, but I wanted to see if the ending would be the same. Of course it wasn't. I found the ending to be disappointing. Also, the book was far more gruesome, so I didn't know M. Knight tamed it down so much. The acting was okay, minus Bautista. All and all...it wasn't great. Thank god it wasn't too long, otherwise I might have turned it off.
Thunder Force (2021)
Not terrible
Most Melissa McCarthy movies royally suck. This one was actually watchable. If they cut out the lame jokes directed towards 6 year olds, it would have been decent.
