The Fall Guy (2024)
Homage to the original series
It was so great to see Lee Majors at the end of the film. Make sure you do stay to the end beyond the credits as well, that's so special. Was it the Bionic Woman with him making the final arrest? You'll have to see.
I liked the fact that sound that Lee Majors made in the bionic man tv program when running fast, this was used in this film
The Miami Vice theme used during a boat chase was quite clever, even though it was in Sydney Harbour and not Miami.
So to the film. It does start slow so do stick with it, then the pace increases, and does it increase for sure.
There are many lines from many other films used, Notting Hill, also references to other films, I won't say too much.
The plot! Stunt man breaks back in a film, retreats, but returns to make another film as he learns that the love of his life is directing it. Another stunt man is seen dead, but the body disappears, when found, The Fall Guy is framed. A touch comedic that helps tremendously.
Professor T: Attachment Issues (2024)
Incredible incidental music
Throughout the series, the incidental music has enhanced every episode.
The story to this episode catches you unaware and that is what is great about Professor T.
I see that another series is on its way which is nothing but fantastic news.
Back to this episode. The clever script keeps you guessing as to who is the actual murdered and why they committed the crime, a formulaic pattern to Prof T that's works wonders.
I truly liked the resolve to the relationship between Adelaide and Jasper that concludes brilliantly and paves the way into the next series. Frances de la Tour deserves all awards going for her immaculate acting.
In all, one of the best episodes.
Death in Paradise: Episode #13.5 (2024)
Great episode
This is really almost a different episode compared to the others. The formulaic story line is different in the fact that is of focusing s lot on a Marlon. However at the end, the formula returns.
All of the cast are rallying behind him to get a job as he is to leave the Island to go with his sister who has a scholarship. He has to go with her as his mother has to stay the island.
There are questions on the filming of this episode. Marlon and. DS Florence and having a heart to heart with the sun setting far behind them, yet the bright light is from their left casting shadows to the right. Later DS Neville Parker and DS Florence are discussing the case still in earshot of the victims son who is also s suspect.
The inspectors blog, I thought the sunset chaser might be one of his colleagues. I was wrong.
Love the end where Max Saunders says "Get off me, I'm drowning", he is the shallows on the waters edge.
I'm pleased that all is good for Marlon as he is a likeable character. Great to see JP back.
All of Us Strangers (2023)
I nodded off
I was so disappointed with this film with so many 10 star reviews. Do all these people perhaps enjoy watching paint dry.?
The lead actor met what I thought was himself, well he sounded like him, after a fire alarm goes off, yet he seems to be the only one that evacuates the building and sees what could be a boy in a window.
The Andrew Scott character then is called upon by himself, the other chap in the building who is drunk, but that's as far as that goes.
He then goes cottaging to meet up with a chap who turns out to be his Dad?!
He goes home with his Dad and his Mum welcomes him in. They ask what he is doing, play a record, he goes home, sees the same chap, they share a lift (exciting isn't it?) he says he likes whiskey after all, goes back to his flat alone.
That's as far as I got, exit cinema stage left.
I can see why my usual cinema is only showing this next week at 4:30 in the afternoon. They can't have much faith in it.
Lift (2024)
Mediocre
I hoped that this film would lead up to the hype. A good cast, so quite hopeful.
I guess as it was a Chris Rock film it would be not that serious.
Sam Worthington's dialogue needs to come with subtitles. All of his lines he tried to deliver were awful, I just couldn't get that accent he was going for. He should go back to the green screen.
It was a fun film, yet the back stories are wasted, perhaps there to add minutes to the film.
In summary, gold has to be stolen from an A380 to protect lives, why? I lost that in the beginning.
The chap from Torchwood has the most awful Irish accent as well.
In all, as expected, the ex good guys win.
Finally, right at the end when driving in the car in the mountains, Chris Rock's character takes his eyes off the road too often to be really driving. Typical alas of many films.
The Bletchley Circle: San Francisco: Fog of War (2018)
Great series
I found all 8 episodes quite exciting. I will now have to find the original series.
The last two episodes, forgiving the Russian accents that ebbed out and back again, were brilliant.
Guy Garvey singing in the Jazz club was delicious and if only it was released as a song.
The four lead ladies work so well together and with the formulaic story lines, each double episode working extremely well.
It reminded me of Father Brown meets Miss Fisher Murder Mystery. The police always dismissing obvious evidence, arresting the wrong person, love interest, then good prevails.
Well done, I was thoroughly entertained.
The Famous Five (2023)
Delicious fun
Take away any perceived idea that this is like any other Famous Five you have seen. A Famous Five of the Future perhaps, but still in the past.
How I miss Dawn French and Timmy being so licky.
It's actually quite an intelligent version and at one stage I thought Jack Gleesons character might have turned into Hitler.
Back to this episode. Great introduction to what I am excited to look forward to.
The plot does have holes in it, but that is for picky people to pick at. In all the story line works well.
It's almost like Indiana Jones writer was involved, you'll see what I mean when you watch it. Complex series of events to find the lost treasure.
It does get found and at the end of the programme there is lashings of ginger beer.
Leave the World Behind (2023)
A load of tosh
I only stuck with the film a there were a few reviewers who liked it.
I should have believe the last majority that did not like it, and thought a load of Tosh.
Family rents a house near the beach, the owners return as an apocalypse is possibly happening.
Lots of product placement, coffee house and car manufacturer, then the poorly cgi'd flamingos go to the pool and the dear give evil states.
The second sonic noise makes the boy pull out his teeth, well some of them.
Visit Kevin Bacon to get some blue pills to cure the boy.
Then what I believe is New York has a bomb go off and the girl gets to watch the last episode of Fiends.
The End.
The Great Escaper (2023)
Simply brilliant
Knowing that this was the last film for both Michael and Glenda made it even more special.
They played their characters to perfection, a married couple for 70 years with love that kept them together.
We learn that after the war Michael's character, Bernard, did not talk about it and Glenda's character, Irene, did not ask as she knew it might break him.
The escape itself is done eloquently with the staff at the care home playing their roles as expected, no fussing, matriarchal matron, happy go lucky medic and caring carer.
As an aside, it was nice to see that the bikers got their comeuppance.
Once Bernie gets to France he faced his demon as did the superb Sur John Standing, watch the film to understand more.
It was not until the screen credits that I noticed how important the incidental music played its part, as did the moments of silence.
What a waste says Bernie when he was at the war graves, how topical is that still?
In all, a very thoughtful film, no expected surprises at the end either. After all, it's based on a true story.
Extraction (2020)
Subtitles required
Chris Hemsworth's dialogue needs subtitles as he mumbles a lot of his his lines. That makes it difficult to get the plot at times. Especially after a good beating when the action takes a pause.
Very good otherwise.
This is a typical film where you just wonder how someone can survive being beaten up, shot at, fall from a building, get knocked down by a car s and all that.
The filming sequences of the car chases is done extremely well, cgi? Not sure but it is certainly filmed at high speed as if it was done on a motorcycle racing in between high speed cars.
The it is left, extraction 2 foot sure.
Rye Lane (2023)
A very enjoyable film.
This is a really good and enjoyable film. Nothing nasty.
We saw it in an advance screening, just some 10 or so numbers watching it.
Boy and girl have both broke up from their partner's and this is the tale of a day in each others company. And possibly more.
I will describe it as a beautiful romance in the making.
We learn about their respective break ups and their ex partners too.
A wonderful walk around Peckham, Brixton and the surrounding areas.
I didn't know that Colin Firth sold kebabs.
Watch out for all the characters apart from the lead actors, they add so much love to the film.
I could watch it again to be honest.
La legge di Lidia Poët (2023)
Amazing costumes
I'm up to episode five and will give a few days rest before watching the last episode in this series. It's certainly binge watchable.
The costumes are amazing, i wonder how the leading lady who is poor and not really working wears such fabulous outfits.
It's a shame that those who are doing the dubbing are doing it without any feeling like i am sure the original actors are. It's just like they are reading the dialogue without even seeing the acting.
It is like Enola Homes for sure and that is a positive. It has the Death in Pasture Paradise / House ping moments.
Lots of little twists that keep you entertained, The cheers.
The Menu (2022)
Left me wanting a fast food burger
I was so hoping that this would be a good film from the reviews.
Alas no, as after about half an hour I had enough and walked out.
That left four other people in the Cinema, shows how popular it was.
15 rated as well, with the suicide and finger being chopped off, I would say it should be a higher rating than that.
Ralph Fienns accent wandered about from British to something with an American southern drawl.
The man who was all gaga over the chef was so unbelievable as well, not sure of his relationship with the lady he took, to call her a child when she was not impressed with the dish with no food.
Not for me.
The History of Future Folk (2012)
Cult status for sure
I stumbled across this film and was surprised it was 10 years old already. How did I miss it. ?
I was captured from the start to be honest. It's gentle story telling us not rushed. Nils d'Aulaire who plays the lead Bill/General Trius delivers his part exceptionally as firs Jay Klaitz who is Kevin who is sent also to Earth to se what happened to the General.
It's such a fantastic story as I say and I was so pleased that it remained nice throughout.
Music heals all evils I guess is part of the plot, as does love.
Wren could have flown away as she was really not needed in the film, she is Bill's Earth daughter.
A huge plus was the music, from just a guitar and a ? (Like a large ukulele), was simple and effective.
Thank you, I hope this gets more attention than it perhaps has had.
The plot? Spaceman cones to Earth to destroy humans so those from Hondo can live on it. He fails and another and another arrive.
It may look cheap, and I read it did not cost a lot to make, nor were the box office takings huge. That aside, to me, it's priceless.
Black Adam (2022)
Great for entertainment
Good v Evil, depending on what you perceive as Evil.
I couldn't understand why the Justice League were anti someone who was defending those being oppressed ? No spoilers?
One scene made me chuckle, when cars going around a roundabout in the town, we're doing just that, going around and around and not turning off.
Nice to have humour and sarcasm, watch out for that.
Overall, long fight scenes as you'd expect. You wonder why the son actually ever made it past the age he is, I'd certainly not stop a bullet as he was such a pain.
At the end, why bring in Superman? Just to get the audience to read the credits?
See How They Run (2022)
A waste of good actors
I was hoping to enjoy this film from what was a good and promising trailer.
I wanted to enjoy it, yet it left me wondering why I stuck it out. I like a film with characters to believe and care for, these all left me cold.
Moaning Myrtle as Agatha, really!! So out of character, I'm surprised that the Agatha Christie foundation gave this approval. Was Richard Attenborough really such a luvie at an early age?
In our auditorium people just left at the end without speaking, looking shell shocked, I suspect that they wished that they should have stayed at home to watch the Bake Off live or paint dry.
Sherwood (2022)
It gets better and better
Starting with episode one, I was willing the plot to move on. However the class acting, script and direction makes me want it not to stop.
I got a feeling of total belief with the characters.
If you feel the sane, stick with it.
No spoilers, it's brilliant.
Sister Boniface Mysteries: Scoop! (2022)
Getting better and better
Each episode is improving with us learning more and more about the characters.
However, if this is set in the 1960's, then the thermal printer used by Sister Boniface, although created in 1965 would not be in production especially one so small to be used in the laboratory.
Excellent cast and KGB story line.
Will the Inspector and the news reporter get together?
Here Today (2021)
Very slow
I don't walk out of many movies, this one alas did not grip me.
Was it the American Humour that did not work?
Lots of unreal actions, you'd know by a certain age if you were allergic to shell fish.
Sorry Billy, you were fab in Soap.
The Misfits (2021)
Watch it at your peril
The other reviews are so right, this is a terrible film.
Why does Pearce Brosnan want to do it? The money perhaps!
So disjointed, unbelievable and misfitting.
Find a freshly painted wall to watch dry instead, it will give you more pleasure.
Scorpion: Don't Burst My Bubble (2017)
Immune girl wears makeup
Ellie I'd supposed to be immune to everything, yet she wears so much makeup.
Scorpion: Kill Screen (2015)
Not the best
How an adult can talk to a child at the beginning like the CIA Authority man does, in so unbelievable.
The series is very good, but this episode fails.
It does get better, S stick with it.
Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga (2020)
Ignore the critics, enjoy enjoy.
From start to the Finnish or finish, I found this film to be pure Eurovision. Camp, cute and creative.
All the right ingredients with good v evil, will they won't they and an unexpected ending.
I've not laughed out loud watching a film like this for a very long time. I'll have to watch it again and again.
