Breathe: Into the Shadows (2020)
Abhishek A. Bachchan takes the cake
What a performance by AAB, its simply breathtaking. And what a storyline!
Kudos to the director who took the biggest ever risk of revealing the suspense early in the series and still keeping it gripping till the end!
To some it may feel predictable but for me it's success came from the fact that it sent shivers down my spine more than a horror movie would simply because it felt so realistic!
Aarya (2020)
What a masterpiece!
Brilliant storytelling and an amazing performance by Sushmita make this series worth watching. The brilliance of the storytelling can be judged from the fact that 50 min odd episodes never feel stretched. I was quite amazed by the pace and excitement maintained throughout the series with no let up anywhere
Sushmita Sen as Aarya is a true revelation! For the first time ever, she has showcased talent beyond just a pretty face. Her transition from a soft dedicated home maker to a hardened stone faced protector is quite chilling and so believable!!
Watch it for the brilliant content and the sheer brilliance of the lead acting!
ImMATURE (2019)
An innocent cocktail of emotions
Life gives us countless memories but some of the most unforgettable ones are invariably from school. A time of innocence friendships and pure love, school is a memorable experience and this series just brings it to life.
In an age where series rely on racy content, this one is soothing both on the eyes and ears
The series thrives on a beautifully told storyline enhanced by brilliant performances by both the lead actors and ably supported by the others.
This is definitely a series to cherish. It will make you relive your school days - the fun and the pain, love lost and gained. The only grudge I have at the end of it is that like all good things in life, this got over a little too soon!
Mayanagari - City of Dreams (2019)
A series driven by a powerful storyline and impactful performances
A 6.5 hours series with a not so known start cast (largely Marathi actors not known in North) can always make you think twice whether it can be watched. At a time when most movie writers fail to write a tight 2 hour script, this series just shows how web based content is at a different level altogether!
This is a political thriller that keeps you on the edge right from the beginning and continues to surprise you throughout. Powerful performances by all the lead actors makes this series worth watching.
This would have been worth a full rating had it not been for the countless intimacy scenes sprinkled through the episodes which have absolutely no connection to an otherwise brilliant storyline.
Don't go by the criminally less reviews and ratings available, this is surely a hidden gem!
Thappad (2020)
A ridiculous story with the most hollow central character
Thappad is a classic example of why a man should not make a woman centric movie. The movie is a depiction of a lot of social problems that a woman goes through and yet the central character is the most frivolous ever!
The basic premise of the movie itself is questionable. The question isn't really if a man can slap a woman or not, it's frankly a redundant one! The bigger question on the depiction is the significance of the slap and the depth of the central character.
Did she resent the slap because she felt it was wrong? Or was it because noone objected to it? Or was it because her husband never really said sorry? Or was it because it brought to life the jarring reality that she was unhappy with her life state and had sub consciously buried it?
My objection to the entire movie lies in the fact that she makes one slap the center of her life when she doesn't even bat an eyelid on the regular bashings of her domestic help!
She makes the entire story frivolous herself in the end when she tells her loving mother in law that she won't forgive her because noone objected and that she realized that she resented what her life had become (realization that its not even her favorite color). It puts into question a woman's willing sacrifices to build a household which become the source of resentment by a single slap! It also puts into question the very foundation of the relationship called marriage!
And while this frivolous story is unraveling in the centre, the characters facing much bigger social stigmas are left in the background like insignificant dancers in an item dance!
Paatal Lok (2020)
Great casting and acting let down by a sub par narrative
For a thriller series, Paatal Lok is surprisingly slow. For a story that starts off strong, it gets drab and stretched towards the second half. The last couple of episodes are the biggest let down with such superficial portrayal of the villains and heroes that you are confused who is what at the end of the day!
The only saving grace of the series is the brilliant casting and acting and hence gets my rating. This is a series that fails to deliver on the promises it makes!
Kaafir (2019)
A compelling story that touches your heart and leaves you wanting more
This is a series which needs to be seen rather than described in words. A perfect composition of flawless writing, brilliant characterisation and heart touching performances that leaves you wanting more even after 6 hours. Story telling at its best!
