The Matrix Resurrections (2021)
Wish I had taken the blue pill this time
If this movie wasn't related to the Matrix saga, it would be an "ok" movie, at best. But as a sequel for such an iconic franchise, this movie is weak, and it hardly held my attention. I watched the previous three before going into this one, because it had been a while, and I wanted everything that came before to be fresh. The good thing is that I could get those minor references that I would never have gotten otherwise, but it was also bad because of the contrast between them. It didn't... feel like a Matrix movie, I guess? It was a bold move to stray so much from the feel of the originals, but if you wanna go as meta as this, you'd be better off playing it safe and try to get the most out of the feeling of nostalgia from the audience. I felt everything was rushed, even though the movie has a duration of over 2 hours. There are so many new concepts and so much things happened between Matrix Revolutions and Resurrections, that it was just a lot to grasp and didn't feel natural.
Unforgettable (2017)
Not bad, just more of the same
This is your usual movie about an unstable ex with a traumatic past having a meltdown and doing crazy stuff to get back together with her former husband, while making the protagonist look like she's the one who's insane. It's got a lot of cliche and some over the top happenings, maybe that's why it's getting so many harsh reviews. But it also has some pretty solid writing and very decent acting, especially from Katherine Heigl. I'd say it's entertaining enough.
Alien Abduction (2014)
Wasted potencial
I feel that this is watchable if you're a die hard fan of alien movies. But it could have been so, so much better.
A few spoilers ahead!
What I liked about it:
- I am a die hard fan of alien movies, and I was missing something focused on classic abduction stories like this one.
- If you think aliens are scary like I do, there are a few creepy moments and it succeeds on building some tension around them.
What bothered me:
- Just WHY did they have to make it a "found footage" type of movie? It didn't add anything to the story. The camera was so steady and focused on what was happening, and the rest of the characters ignored the kid behind it most of the time, it's like he wasn't even there. Every time I was finally starting to enjoy a scene, I remembered there was supposed to be a terrified kid operating the camera, but it just doesn't show or reflects on anything around them. And that completely ruined it for me.
- By the end (and the beginning, btw, as they showed the final scene at the start of the movie, God knows why), the camera was literally thrown out of the alien ship up in space, and once it hit the floor it only got a broken screen. A broken screen is what I got when I dropped my phone on the floor, but this camera fell from SPACE. When the government found it, they simply turned it on just fine.
- Very weak script, they should have explored a lot more before jumping right in to the first abduction in the tunnels. Right after they get to the campsite, we get one bright light coming from outside the tents and tree dots moving up in the sky, and that's it. From there, dad gets taken and all hell breaks loose.
It could have been a great and very scary abduction movie, but they missed so many great opportunities here, and it was just average at best. I gave it a 5 because I love alien movies, otherwise I feel I wouldn't even have bothered reviewing it.
Time Trap (2017)
Very cool concept, but it was too rushed
I gave it a 5, which is a shame, because it had potential to be so close to a 10.
I loved the story, but it lacks so much on character development, and a lot of things felt so rushed, especially the ending.
I just wish this movie was longer and that they would take their time while discovering what was going on, until finally coming to a resolution.
If the plot caught your attention, I'd say i's worth it to give it a shot.
Take One: A Documentary Film About Swedish House Mafia (2010)
A bit annoying, but entertaining if you really like Swedish House Mafia
When I knew this film was coming out, I was very excited. Mainly for three reasons: first, because I'm a big fan of electronic music. Second: I'm also a fan of Swedish House Mafia and their individual work. Third: you just don't see a lot of house music artists doing this kind of thing! So yes, I had a lot of expectation about this one.
So I started watching it, thinking I would see a lot of interesting stuff about the guys from SHM, their lives and their career. Now, I don't know if it was bad editing or what, but what I saw was three guys that complain about every single thing all the time. Basically they talk trash about everything and everyone around them: the clubs they go to and its employees, their own crew and their cars. They also talk trash about other celebrities, interviewers, equipments, cities, festivals and even about other DJs - and that's where I kinda draw a line. And this is just what I remember now, I'm sure they complain about other stuff too!
I thought the whole idea was to show us more details of their careers and especially the making of their massive single, "One". Unfortunately, I think that in the end we can't even say that there are 10 minutes of that. So it's really a shame that this documentary makes them look like just a bunch of guys that drink all the time and are never happy about anything, having their stardom coming way over their heads.
Anyway, there are some pretty cool takes on some great festivals around the world, and the soundtrack is awesome too. If you really like Swedish House Mafia and their kind of music, maybe it's almost worth it to check this one out. But you are warned, it could turn out to be just as disappointing to you as it was to me!
