13 Bom di Jakarta (2023)
Decent Indonesian action film
I'm a fan of a good, detailed and compelling action movie, this one has hit the mark for me.
1. Indonesian action films has been improved SO MUCH in the last few years, i know it all started from The Raid, which was technically still directed by a western director, but now this movie is directed by a local and the production, set pieces, and environment looks alive, detailed and functional, the props are realistic, the guns looks great (noticed some flashy new SIG MCX Virtuses there)
2. The VFX are nice, much better than previous indo films, so i'm quite impressed with the quality, it doesnt look out of place and is well blended with the environment, noticed some practical effects as well
3. I like the new bitcoin aspect and the two startup founders, it makes the dynamic more unique and add additional tension to the usual Good Cop and Bad Cop shenanigans.
Though i have to say several drawbacks:
1. The sound, the dialogues are nicely mixed with the ambience and music, however the gun sounds leave much to be desired, it lacked the environmental interaction usually heard with gunshots, like indoor and outdoor should sound different, it lacked the tail and echo while indoor, and some of the fighting sounds are not that good
2. Firearms technique, i noticed how Arok reloaded his AR, he tapped the bolt catch and there's a sound of bolt releasing, but i saw the bolt didnt move, rather, it stayed closed the whole time instead of releasing.
3. The camerawork during fighting looks a bit too close, the way we can't see all the details from the fight.
Dune (2021)
Visually Impressive, yet boring & dull movie overall
I have not read the book, did not know anything about the source material nor have i heard anything about the source material at all, so this review comes from an avid movie goers that also loves science fiction genres.
The movie is overall visually impressive, from the costume design, environments, sets, special effects, vehicle designs, and visual effects, the ornithopters are in my opinion one of the most unique sci-fi vehicle design i've ever seen that still fairly grounded (using moving wings instead of anti gravity).
However,, i wasn't very satisfied with the movie itself, i was confused for the first half of the movie, and the pacing is quite slow, the actions are very few and far between, there's also too much "dreaming" sequence which left me confused of what it means as a non-fan of the source material.
Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City (2021)
A mediocre and bland adaptation of the games it represent
I like that the atmosphere felt true to the source material, sometimes it felt like a horror, with dark and gloomy colors, as a fan of the games, its very close to the source.
However, i do feel that this movie is flat throughout, there are little tension, the build up are slow, the ending are unsatisfying, chief irons's questionable manner felt awkward and at times unnecessary, though i knew that he's a despicable individual in the games.
The grounded and realistic take on the movie is very welcome after sci fi dystopia whatever last resident evil movie
Jill Valentine's casting are questionable, she look 100% different than how she should look like
The claires and wesker are spot on, the rest are okay.
There are no Tyrant/Nemesis here though, the reporter/whistleblower died to a zombie in his cell instead of the tyrant
If you're a fan of the game, you won't miss anything because there aren't anything really new and groundbreaking.
Itaewon Keullasseu: Episode #1.14 (2020)
I hope the show ends in a good way
I won't complain much, there are so many mixed emotions that for the first minutes or so i was speechless.
To be honest i much prefer Saeroyi ended up together with Soo Ah, they had such perfect conditions for childhood love story, traumatic, tragic, and a lot of faithful waiting, i actually relate to them so much that's why i root for them. The episode is good, yet what i don't get is despite all the words Saeroyi can say, he choose to stay silent, even though he was speaking to his first love, not just an ordinary friend, all these years they were together, he didn't change that much, i feel bad for Soo Ah being a hopeless romantic for Saeroyi because of his promise years ago, i just wish the show ends in a good way, though i'm concerned after finished this episode 😶
For the first time of watching kdrama i didn't root for the main character love choice, i can't imagine if i ever got into his situation, picking between two sides is never easy.
