The Truth About Emanuel (2013)
The Truth is It's Ok
TL;DR
An interesting watch. Probably will not stick. Passable.
This film's certainly an interesting one, at least conceptually and how it presents certain ideas, but that's about it. Visually, I can appreciate the film but it's really nothing outstanding. Lots of the dialogue feels strange, some characters feel irrelevant to the point that you could take them out and It'd literally be the same story, and some things just detract from the main focus of the film.
The acting is fine but not outstanding to me, the main character never really reaches me and does some questionable things but is understandable contextually, and its unique imagery makes it stand out.
Not much great to say that's great about it in my opinion. It's just ok and I think its artistic qualities are what make this movie's concept interesting. Solid hit-or-miss in my opinion with lots of glaring flaws.
Memento (2000)
A Memento I'll Keep But Won't Cherish
TL;DR
Check it out, could end up being a favorite of yours. Not for me though. 7/10.
Memento is an interesting film for me, and probably for you too if you are aware of the premise. Heck, maybe you've already seen it, it's been a good while.
This film I feel I should rate higher. The acting is nice, the characters are interesting, and the idea of the movie is explored in such a unique and interesting way. Visually, its not going to make you crazy, but it's definitely got some interesting looking shots to contribute to the mood of the film.
But, sadly, this film just did not reach me. It's an interesting movie, that handles its idea in such a unique format, and I feel I should love it more, but I don't sadly.
The Shawshank Redemption (1994)
Amazing Adaption Showing A Different Stephen King Story
TL;DR
Classic. A Must Watch. 9/10.
While Mr. King is no stranger to writing in other genres, and has built a fine reputation with that on its own, he's definitely proven that he's the King of Modern Horror (see what I did there ;) ) and I think this adaption pushes perfectly the idea of Mr. King being possibly even the King Of Modern Literature.
Though personally visually or aesthetically, I did not find it very appeal it (which I do value), for this film it works perfectly.
A story grounded in reality. Our Reality. Its message can be applied to us all, despite its simpleness. It's explored in an endearing and emotional way that is shown through its beautifully portrayed and written cast of characters.
Will you cry? Maybe if you're that kind of person. Will you enjoy, remember, and connect with the story? A big fat yes.
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004)
Eternal Sunshine Of An Amazing Film
A very realistic and beautifully crafted look at romance, from its visuals to its story to its acting all coming together to form perhaps one of if not the best romance film of all time.
Must watch film, even if you dislike the genre. Is and will forever be a personal favorite.
10/10.
