La La Land (2016)
Loved it!
Totally surprised!
Just recently managed to watch this ( sky box kept dieing....)
Loved the dream sequences - very reminiscent of Gene Kelly and Leslie Caron, (An American in Paris).
Classic plot- they meet, they hate each other, then they fall in love.
Loved all the 40's/50's film references
Loved the 'What might have been ... - # Sliding doors' in the last 10 minutes.
Gosling outshines Stone in every way. But still worth watching.
Possibly a sequel?.......
I would love it if they got back together in some way in the future, (#spoiler?)
They both achieved their goals - but sacrificed their love n achieving it.
Lessons for life.
Succession (2018)
Scheming Shiv
Shan't repeat what's already been said.
Shiv got dumped as CEO, Greg ( via google Translate, tried to bargain with both Kendal and Tom.
When shiv hears Tom will be CEO, she gets cold feet and votes for the deal.
The deal goes through, she goes back to Tom, hoping she can manipulate him behind the scenes.
Wife of a CEO plus inheritor on the way. Neat. Cunning.
Hand- hold in the back of the didn't bode well for a happy relationship - limp hand barely touches limp fish.
Roman seemed relieved and happy with his martini.
Kendall headed for the water again. Has been a consistent theme through.
Will he take a running jump?
He has nothing left. No family. No company.
I guess we'll never know.
With Intent: Episode #1.4 (2021)
Brilliant
Clever that at the beginning, we didn't know who had been killed.
Great twists - both characters scheming and manipulative, poor nanny caught in the middle.
Nice guy from Neighbours takes on evil Janine from Eastenders.
Hmm....
Watched it over two evenings - suspense ( and scenery/houses are great).
May not be realistic to think people lead such complicated lives, but great entertainment.
Mad Dogs (2011)
Starts well, doesn't last
Starts well. Series one q good. Series 2 and 3 ok. Very disappointing ending. Did they run out of ideas or money?
The Operative (2019)
Weak ending
Started well, but not enough differentiation of timescales and locations = confusing. Seemed like it should have been longer, but badly edited. Lack of continuation. Maybe the inconclusive ending was aimed at there being a sequel?
Sanditon (2019)
P and p revisited
Only two eps in, but soooh many parallels; the poor relation/friend is snubbed at the ball; Elizabeth, Darcy, Lady Catherine, Wickham, they all seem to be there.
Shall wait and see how it develops.....,
