A Nightmare on Elm Street Part 2: Freddy's Revenge (1985)
There is no Jesse....I'm Jesse now!
And I'll say it again. There is no Jesse, I'm Jesse now. Those are the words of Freddy when Lisa tries to reason with Freddy. The reason I mentioned that quote is because that one, and many others like it are what make this movie so funny. (I'm not even going to get into the sounds of Jesse's screams). Freddy has so many one liners that will have you busting up (if you pay attention). Not quite as good as the first, and not really scary, if you will. None of 'em are. The special effects are OK, but it's the acting, as I always say, that you need pay attention to. If you do, you'll find so many UN-intentional comedy props you wont even believe it. Try looking at Freddy's face when they do close ups. I'm sure this was intended to be frightening but it ended up as comedy at it's best. As Shooter says: "the best comedy in the world was never planned". I shoot it a 10 for humor and a 4 for suspense which averages this flick to an 8.
Clay Pigeons (1998)
Entertaining all the way through ha ha ha ha ha ha ha
Not only was the story entertaining and somewhat suspenseful but the characters here are one of a kind. Vaughan's laugh is contagious. Yes, he is a killer but one can't help but like him. Not too many actors can pull that off. It took me a couple of times to realize who he got into the truck with at the end, and then the ending made more sense to me. Phoenix also did a superb job as Lester's "fishin' buddy", who just wants to live a normal life. Georgina Cates who plays Amanda does a superb job creating a character that you can't help but hate. Garofalo contributes her dry sense of humor as usual. Watch how she interracts with Barney. The many talented people in this film contribute to a well made product containing good humor, suspense, action and drama. Shooter fires nine out of ten bullets at this flick.
Gone in Sixty Seconds (2000)
Funny, suspenseful, dramatic...but check this out
This flick had its share of humorous moments and the special effects were very good but (as I like to do), lets get to the acting. Now Raines' brother was not the best actor I've ever seen, kinda whiny and pathetic. Delroy Lindo as usual has a handful of hilarious moments but what I liked the best was how Nicholas Cage, even with his over-acting pulls it off. The over-acting on his part really made his character funny. Watch as he goes into the Ferrari dealership and deals with the salesperson. Check out his performance at the coffee shop. Me and my kids both rewound that part about fifty times. If you're looking for realistic or true to life this probably wont do it for you. Overall, "SHOOTER" shoots this one an 8, on the basis of entertainment value and humor.
National Security (2003)
Its the small details that make this flick
Luckily its the small details that make National Security as funny as it is because as far as the storyline, well, it's not the best I've ever seen. Personally, I think that it gets funnier every time I watch it. Look at Martin Lawrence's facial expressions. Watch how much he harrasses his partner. As an antagonist, he's a riot! It doesn't get much funnier than watching those two security guards walking down the street, stripped of their badges and ties while Lawrence proceeds to annoy his partner to the brink of insanity. Forget the racial boiling many of your politically correct kool aid drinking comrades will probably speak of and enjoy lunacy at its best.
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2005)
Proof that you can"t re-invent the wheel
I bought this movie for my kids for $19.95 and when I took it back all the video store would pay me for it was $1.50, and I wasn't too surprised. This movie was just straight up stale. Johnny Depp was a disaster, trying to re-invent the legendary magician as a Michael Jackson looking - Rosie O'donell baby talk speaking character that does not work. The original, played by Gene Wilder was hilarious. I expected to get some comic relief out of the new remake of the children's classic. Sadly, this remake will stiff you, without a laugh and leave you wondering what the makers of this poor synopsis were even thinking. Computer graphics do not a classic make. Sorry Charlie, you can't make a Wonka factory out of Neverland Ranch.
The Judge (1986)
terrible acting worth a good laugh
My sister and I used to see this show on late at night. I guess it was late-night time filler but even though it was not meant to be a "comedy", the acting alone made this show one of the funniest things I ever saw! One show even had a story line about a fat boy who ate too much and his mom was taking him to court to force him to have surgery! Bob Shield was "the judge" in a courtroom that very much replicated the ever popular "divorce court", all the way down to the acting. The judge would give practical advice before and after his ruling. It was actually good advice, better than I've heard in most REAL courtrooms. The judge himself was not a bad actor but the "guests" on each show were obviously reading Q cards as they spoke and the acting was so bad my sides hurt from laughter.
