Avatar: The Way of Water (2022)
Absolutely Masterpiece I Am Speechless
You might think 3 hours is way too long, but once you sit down and start watching Avatar: The way of Water, you would only wish it were longer and longer so that we can all dive ourself into the beautiful Pandora.
It's too good to be even called' A fantacy film' or ' Si-Fi film' , this is something at a completely another level. Actually I might go as far as saying you won't even notice the use of CGI, although the film is basically all CGI. It almost feels like you are peeking a different existing world through camera.
Back when the first Avatar movie came out, it seemed to be ahead of the time by 10 years. Now I watched The Way Of Water, I just can't help thinking this is still ahead of our current time, ahead of all the other movies by ten years.
Everything is perfect, I have nothing more to say. We are blessed to have directors like Cameron who would devote themselves in movies and always strive for a more perfect picture.
The Good Nurse (2022)
Acting Is Good but that's all
Eddie Redmayne and Jessica Chastain did a wonderful job in characters as always, good acting is always touching, not to mention that this is based on a real story, but in this movie all those efforts doesn't seem to function as expected.
One word for the movie is just Flat, the rhythm of the story is really hard for me to empathize with. Even though the real nurse Charlie never said anything about the purpose, in the movie there should at least be some reasonable representation for that. At the end of the movie, Charlie's sudden decision to confess is really unnatural, and if Amy is special to him, then maybe there should be some scenes showing special feeling ahead. I didn't see any, I even thought he is gonna do something bad towards Amy's family.
Another thing is I think it would be better to show the cruel part of Charlie as well, maybe some quick clip of all his confirmed victims, some scenes of him torturing his ex-wife of maybe just a scene he injected insulin into the infusion bag. I am not sure but maybe this contrast of tenderness and cruelty of the same person may add a little expressiveness to the film.
It's not a bad movie, but with the cast and the story, I expected better.
Guillermo del Toro's Cabinet of Curiosities: The Autopsy (2022)
Best Episode So Far
Excellent! It is indeed a perfect combination of sci-fi and horror!
I dare say that until three-quarters of this episode there is absolutely no thought of what will follow. The coroner is probably my favorite kind of horror movie protagonist! The ending is also very satisfying.
The first half seems to be a bit lengthy though, and the deletion of some scenes does not seem to affect the integrity of the overall story. There is also no explanation as to why the bodies found in the woods had strange facets in the first place.
All in all, an episode that will definitely not let you down! I almost began to imagine what it would be like to make this setting more complete and make an entire episode of sci-fi thrillers dedicated to this worldview.
