Idiot's Delight (1939)
Watch "A Free Soul" instead.
I'm a fan of Clark Gable and Norma Shearer who was disappointed with their performances in "Idiot's Delight."
Their scenes together toward the beginning of the movie were cute, but once Shearer became the Russian countess, I lost interest in watching it. However, I did stick it out until the end hoping that it would get better and also because the story progressively got more bizarre.
Oddly enough, the ending kind of reminded me of "Fight Club" since both films have the main characters in a high-rise building in the midst of chaos and destruction. Speaking of the ending, I preferred the international one because it made a tiny bit more sense than the domestic version.
If you want to see a great Gable - Shearer pairing, watch "A Free Soul." It's a far better film than "Idiot's Delight."
East Side, West Side (1949)
Stanwyck and Heflin steal the show
I just saw this movie the other day on TCM. The acting was exceptional all around. The story was interesting and kept my attention the entire time.
I especially enjoyed the scenes between Stanwyck and Heflin. It was fun to see their characters interact in a friendly manner. It's quite a contrast from their roles in "The Strange Love of Martha Ivers." My favorite parts of the movie were when they ate mushrooms & eggs and when they were hanging out in the NY neighborhood.
My only quip was how the murder plot resolved so quickly. The movie would've been more suspenseful if it had been a little longer. And it easily could've been 10 or 15 minutes longer; it's not like the movie dragged at any point.
Saving Private Ryan (1998)
Great war movie
Saving Private Ryan is an amazing movie and has the greatest battle scenes ever filmed!
I still haven't figured out how this lost best picture.
One of Spielberg's best!
The English Patient (1996)
One of the best movies I've seen
The English Patient is a great movie.
It is beautifully directed by Anthony Minghella.
The cinematography is awesome.
Ralph Fiennes, Kristin Scott Thomas, and Juliette Binoche turn in outstanding performances.
Schindler's List (1993)
A Great movie
This movie is one of many Spielberg masterpiece's.
The whole cast is excellent, but Ralph Fiennes stole the show.
A must see.
