London Fields (2018)
39 producers
39 producers on this mess managed to pull this film down to a score of 3.9. What is wrong with modern filmmakers? The more producers on the credits, the worse the film tends to be. How could the industry get into this terrible quagmire? So much money is wasted on first class flights for the producers and five star hotels, this money could have been put into the movie. 39 producers can't agree on one thing so obviously the film suffers from indecision and pulling in different directions. The movie the Godfather had only one producer and that turned out very well. In my humble opinion. I've heard that the directors cut is much better than the producers cut, that isn't a surprise to me, I wouldn't however go out of my way to seek the directors cut out having seen the film once.
Eternals (2021)
Floaty and flat
The weirdly floaty and flat washed out images mirror the floaty and flat storytelling. Lots of good effort by many departments yet it's like a pancake left out in the rain.
Army of the Dead (2021)
Ow
The opening dusk scene looked beautiful. Drew me in.
Then screen turned pink with mostly ZACK SNYDER. Then turned red with unrelenting gore. Then all shaky cam. Then poor setting out the story by narration.
Even a 15 year old would groan at this cheap junk.
The One and Only Ivan (2020)
Bland
Oh what a shame. Not a kids movie as it's breathtakingly slow. Not a grown ups movie as it explains everything too much. A hard task is to make you believe a gorilla can talk but when the dog has such a similar tone it all falls down.
The ending was pulling at the heart strings but so syrupy the heart has stopped. The last scene in Schitt's Creek was nuch more moving! Give me Bambi or Lady & the Tramp original storytelling done well. The CGI was astounding but you need a way of telling the story better. What did your kids think?
Aftermath (2017)
22
Good acting throughout and a fair story but someone should have held the directors hand on set and in the cutting room.
22 producers were credited on this film and they should donate their fees to charity.
Curtiz (2018)
Spoilt Casablanca.
This film spoilt a really great film. Lots of lessons how not to make a movie. Though shot with modern equipment it didn't capture the luminous quality of an 80 year old film.
Where Hands Touch (2018)
Remarkable
What a remarkable display of acting and cinematography. Every actor in this piece is remarkable. Undeniably hard at times but so compelling. Must be low budget as some cgi moments didn't quite have the funding but a very touching film that I would recommend.
The Outsider (2020)
Focus
Started well but got too stretched out. Hot very annoyed at arty out of focus shots and hip off sided framing. The promise of early episodes didn't deliver in my opinion.
Black Earth Rising (2018)
writer producer directors
Having just seen the last episode and knowing that the operating cameraman was killed in Ghana whilst filming a car stunt I have to question the writer producer directors sense of taste.
I find it immensely distressing that a character was run down by a car.
A big issue with films or tv that are made by a single person who is writer producer director is that they can be too preachy and lack three minds debating the pros and cons of the story and how it's told. For me, the series though probably well intentioned missed on many levels.
End of Days (1999)
the end was not good enough
I have watched Arnold's production, 'End of Days'. After viewing it I felt that there are many strong points/bad points. I felt that the atmosphere which the director created were excellent, the effect were quite grim and cold, the story line was also well thought, but feel the writer could have gone more into depth with the End of days scenario. The ending, I felt that as The devil is said to be as powerful as god, how could he be defeated so easily. Gabriel said, 'how can you defeat me as you are just a man and I am forever'. I felt that Gabriel played the role of the devil far better then the cute creature which was seen at the end. I thought that they should have ended the film with the devil reigning supreme. I also felt that the part when Arnie says 'Please god, help me' should have came earlier. even though I have noticed many floors in the film, I believe that future films will notice these problems, and in turn, Solve them.
